My mate loves them but Personally I think they are a pile of shite! But as I say that's my opinion. Had to laugh when I herd their cover of devil woman tho, the riff was good. I think it's Dani Filths vocals that makes me hate them so much.

When I first heard COF, I thought God was going to knock on my door and banish me to hell for all eternity... [!--emo&

I just think of Dani as an instrument... then it got better. Don't they have to lead guitars? I like that. I also think they did an excellent job with their Hallowed Be Thy Name Cover. One thing I'll never understand about COF is, if they have such deep poetic lyrics, why doesn't Dani make them understandable? [!--emo&

I too was turned onto them by Midian, in addition to Cruelty and the Beast. The lyrics are a little odd, especially when they make up the words [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]
I personally admire just the versatility and musical complexity. Take a song like Cthulhu Dawn or Cruelty Brought Thee an Orchid...then compare it to like...Tortured Soul Asylum or Tearing the Veil From Grace. The styles that they cover in one cd alone make me think highly of them.
And as for Dani's voice...its unique. I haven't really heard anything like it before and I like how he can flawlessly go from a deep growl to a blood-curdling scream a few beats later.

I did love Hallowed Be Thy Name when they did it...I really can't decide which version I like better, the more I listen to the COF one.

I just got into them recently, I got Damnation And A Day and I thought it was pretty good. Might check some more of their works. I think it's annoying that it's "cool" for "tr00" metal fans to hate them. Ah well, sod their "opinions".
I really liked Hallowed Be Thy Name by COF.
The way the synth and the winds at the begining were used along with the interpretation of Dani gave a freaking and chilling intro !
The agression and violent sound which fills the rest of the music is another point. Listening Dani almost EATING MY EAR WHILE SCREAMING "When the priest...." is really enjoyable ! (for me at least)
The very end, just before the last chords, when in Live versions Bruce carries the "ooooooooooooooo" as long as he cans (Rock in Rio anyone?) turned out really good, with Dani "chocking and dying".
The real negative point I would complain are the solos which were destroyed in such ways that even Janick Gers wouldn't have done that ! Cover versions of Maiden's songs with vocalists along the lines of Dani Filth are quite irritating in my opinion. Another example would be Dark Tranquility's cover of 22 Acacia Avenue. Mikael Stanne's style just wasn't meant for the song but I still think they're a good band.

COF's cover of HBTN is a disgrace and a heressy. YOu know, when performed by Bruce, the feeling it has makes you feel sorry about the injustice done to kill the man. Sung by Dani Filth, it sounds like a creature lke Gollum,that fully deserves death penalty, so the whole song is screwed...

I don't care for the whole Black/Death Metal stuff. Most people will say "DATS CUZ OF TEH VOACLS u need 2 gt used to it lol", but seriously, I don't care. I do not deny that there are some bands in the genre who have musical talent, but I just don't like it.
Having said that, I do have some sort of sympathy to Cradle Of Filth. This is, however, not because I enjoy their music, but because they are so unpopular with tr00 black metal fans. I worked with one who hated them (he actually went nuts when I only said the name) because they sold too many records for his taste. Once we were discussing the issue and he said "they suck". My response was "well, that's your opinion". "No that's not my opinion. They just suck".
I wish Cradle Of Filth all the best and hope they will get a no.1 record some day only to piss of these tr00 folks.

As Gollum is a miserable dying creature, it's the perfect voice to sing this song, much better than the voice of a fencer in good health, don't you think ?
Just joking . I actually don't like this cover very much because it doesn't sound enough like COF and I miss the wide range of tones Dani usually uses while singing.
Having said that, COF is one of my favourite band and in my opinion Dani's the best lyricist ever (by the way I wish someone would make a COF commentary). Missing them during their last tour was a heartache.

People like that piss me off Perun. I believe that there are talented bands in the genre. I own a few cds. But people that like it for 'da cool singa' piss me right off.
