Well they wouldn't be as big as they are now, and also wouldn't have recorded an album with Lou Reed.
Impossible to know that - Especially that last part. Yeah, the Cliff back in 1986 would'nt have done it - Probably not the 1986 Hetfield either. Or the 1986 Ulrich. People change. And who knows? He might've been talked into going into the Black Album direction anyway. Besides, it's not like any of us knew Cliff anyway. We base our views on interviews and hearsay.

People have elevated Cliff pretty much to the status of... Supreme Defender of The Metal Faith or whatever. "If Cliff hadn't died they wouldn't have done this or that". Sounds more like wishful thinking and a way to explain the things people may or may not like about new Metallica (though that is in the nature of the human race - To seek explanations for everything, sometimes just for the sake of having an explanation, whether it's likely or not).

Cliff was a fan of the Velvet Underground and introduced their music to the rest of the band. It's likely he would have loved to work with Lou, at least.

This. It's also associated with paying too much respect to musicians who passed away. Cliff was an amazing bassist and musician, but he became a bit overrated by most of people.

WOW! That truly is incredible to see! Thank you so much for sharing that SMX! Also, it's quite interesting to hear how much part 1 sounds like Primus.
