I never got to see Blaze sing with Iron Maiden. Did he put on as good of a show as Bruce? An also how did he sing the classic Maiden songs just as good or better than Paul an Bruce?

One last question Does Bruce sing any of the songs off the albums that Blaze sang on. An if so does Bruce sing them as good as Blaze.

Also does Maiden do any of the Bruce solo songs?

I haven't seen Maiden in at least 12 years they stop touring my part of the country. an i was just wandering what i missed at the concerts.

You should visit the commentary.
That would answer most of your questions.

This is a matter of some debate. Most people seem to be of the opinion that Bruce sang most of the classic material better. However, there are a few Bruce-era songs (notably "Afraid To Shoot Strangers") at which Blaze excelled, and may have even been better than Bruce.

Yes, he has sung several of them. "Sign Of The Cross", "Futureal", "The Clansman", "Lord Of The Flies" and "Man On The Edge" at least (there may be more). Most people agree that Blaze sung these songs much better. Some even go so far as to say Bruce was terrible on these songs. I personally think Bruce was 'good enough' but not great on them, except for "The Clansman". By the time of GMETID, he had sung that one enough times that he finally started sounding really good with it.

Only "Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter", which was originally a Bruce solo song. In my opinion, Maiden's version is so similar to Bruce's original that it is effectively just a cover song with the original singer. Maiden has never played any other Bruce solo songs, and they likely never will.

I agree with what SMX said, but he forgot one question

Yes, he did, and his work on stage was the best that he could do. Both of them are very close to fans, and present some nice speeches, only that Bruce is a bit more energetic. That's it. As for Bruce singing the Blaze-era songs, I think he did a great job for The Clansman and Sign of the Cross, but for the rest I'll let Bruce show you how "good" he was !!! I didn't forget it - I simply couldn't answer, as I've never seen Maiden live with Blaze (aside from the infamous Chile Trooper vid).

SMX comment is on the point. Exactly my opinion (except that I think all Blaze material is best with Blaze, even Clansman [!--emo&;)--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--] ).

As Blaze on stage, it's difficult to compare. I've seen him with Maiden, but since the stage was a lot smaller, it left all the boys with less space to play with.

But Blaze isn't moving around as much as Bruce anyway. His stage presence was however more "intense". Hard to describe with words. It was a darker presence and I loved it.

Bruce is more flamboyant.

Two different eras and I'm glad to have seen both !

Cheers

I agree - from the boots I've heard, Blaze was better. All I meant was that "The Clansman" is the only song where Bruce even came close to how well Blaze sang it. It's the only song where I have to stop and think about who is better. Blaze gets my vote, but just barely.

No, I think Bruce is better at The Clansman- think Rock In Rio! I also think Bruce is the better singer. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Blaze, but he isn't Iron Maiden like Bruce is.

As a matter of interest, does anyone know where I could get hold of a Blaze-era live recording?

I am thinking of Rock in Rio...and the recordings of The Clansman and Sign of the Cross there make me cringe. Part of me thinks that the best part of The Clansman in RiR is Steve's backup singing!

The Sign Of The Cross was played a lot too fast on RiR. The ALAIG version is far better IMO (not to mention that it's Blaze singing [!--emo&:D--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/biggrin.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'biggrin.gif\' /][!--endemo--] ).

I didn't think Bruce was bad on those. You might just think they are bad because you are used to hearing Blaze sing them.

I think it's because the songs were written in the lower key, for Blaze's voice. Maybe if they tweaked the songs a bit musically.

Of course, the same thing happened when Blaze was singing...expecting him to do Run to the Hills in Bruce's vocal range.

It's really not a matter of explaining if Bruce is a better singer or not. They're different. Full point.

Blaze's material was written with him and not thinking "how would Bruce do/sing/hum on this one ?" (even if I sometimes think they didn't break their habits of having Bruce onboard enough: they should have adapted more towards Blaze, especially on VXI).

Now, I'm clearly enjoying Bruce singing some of these songs. I love listening to variations on one song (why wouldn't they try to alter 'Iron Maiden' or 'Sanctuary' for the fun of it ?).
But, really, the intense dark voice of Blaze is missed on Lord of the Flies and Sign of the Cross.

Cheers

Yeah, they are different singers and are good at what they sing.

both singers have their own qualities. Most of you will know that I'm a Blaze supporter. Bruce is ok in songs like Clansman and Sign of The Cross (not as good as Blaze was though), but his versions of Futureal (the official live 99 b-side to Wickerman was SO off-key it hurts!) and Lord Of The Flies (no need to wail around Bruce, try sticking to the original a bit more!) are horrible IMO.

As much as I would love Maiden to play Edge Of Darkness once again, I'm afraid Bruce wouldn't do it justice. So maybe it will better remain unplayed (or if BLAZE need another song for the next Big Bash, they could go for it [!--emo&;)--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--])

I agree with The Saint and Freaky. Maybe Blaze was better on "his" song - it's "normal". He was the front man when they worte these songs - but still, Bruce does a great job.

A good example would be this one : Compare "The Trooper" with Bruce singing then with Blaze. It's partially the exact thing when you compare the same singers with a song like "The Sign of the Cross".

Cheers
