Blaze Bayley gig reviews

The Incredible Acoustic Tour (2011)
The Incredible Acoustic Tour marked Blaze Bayley’s second acoustic venture, following his My Life in Acoustic Tour in 2007, offering fans an intimate and stripped-back experience. Kicking off in England with a two-week run, the tour represented a fresh direction for Blaze, stepping away from the full-band configurations of his past performances. Instead, he was joined on stage by his long-time collaborator, Jase Edwards, the talented guitarist from Wolfsbane and Wildhearts. Together, they reimagined classic songs from Iron Maiden, Wolfsbane, and Blaze's solo catalog.

Key Highlights
  • Blaze Bayley on keyboard for Broken Doll: Blaze Bayley took to the piano for the track Broken Doll during the tour.
  • First time Jase Edwards performed Iron Maiden and Blaze Solo songs: For Jase Edwards, this tour marked the first time he performed songs from both Iron Maiden’s catalog and Blaze’s solo work.

Setlist:

This setlist blends solo work with a healthy dose of nostalgia for their Wolfsbane days. It kicks off with tracks from Blood and Belief like Soundtrack of My Life and Life and Death. Naturally, there’s a heavy presence of Wolfsbane covers, such as Ezy and Temple of Rock, bringing that raw energy and youthful spirit. Man on the Edge by Iron Maiden feels almost mandatory in a Blaze Bayley setlist, while Feel Your Love Tonight (Van Halen) adds a light, fun moment. The encore starts with Sweet Caroline, creating a playful, sing-along vibe, and wraps up with Say Goodbye, a fitting closer that blends nostalgia with a stripped-back, acoustic touch.

  • Final tour with John Slater: This was Blaze's final tour with guitarist John Slater.
John Slater played the warm-up gigs from 2004.03.18 and 2004.03.19. Oliver Palotai had already replaced Slater in the band, but as he had other commitments, Slater still played.

What about Blazes little acoustic tour with Rich Newport (he wasn't very good) on acoustic guitar. I saw him in London doing it in 2007

My Life in Acoustic Tour (2007)

In 2007, Blaze Bayley took a bold step away from his usual full-band, metal performances to embark on a more intimate, acoustic-based tour, titled My Life in Acoustic. This tour, which took place during the latter half of 2007, featured Blaze on vocals accompanied by guitarist Rich Newport. It marked a departure from the typical high-energy, power metal-driven shows and gave fans a more personal and stripped-back experience. The setlist for this tour spanned various points in Blaze’s career, including material from his time in Wolfsbane, Iron Maiden, and his solo work. Songs like “Man on the Edge” and “Sign of the Cross” took on a more reflective tone in this acoustic format, while other tracks, like “Wasted Years” from Iron Maiden, provided an interesting connection to his past.

The King of Metal tour (2012)

The King of Metal tour marked Blaze Bayley’s return to the European stage with a full backing band, in support of his highly anticipated album, The King of Metal. Following the album’s release, Blaze set out on a world tour, kicking off with the European leg. Between March 8 and May 27, 2012, he performed in an impressive range of countries, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Poland, France, Switzerland, Spain, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales, and Italy. This tour was his most extensive in several years, showcasing Blaze’s enduring appeal and the dedication of his loyal fanbase. During the tour, Blaze was accompanied by a talented lineup: Matteo "Lehmann" Grazzini on bass, Claudio Tirincanti on drums, Andrea Neri on guitar, and longtime collaborator Thomas Zwijsen on guitar. Together, they delivered a high-energy, dynamic performance, seamlessly blending material from The King of Metal with classic anthems from Blaze’s extensive career, including his time with Iron Maiden and Wolfsbane. Notably, all the songs from The King of Metal were written by Blaze and Zwijsen, with the exception of "The Black Country," co-written with Jase Edwards.

Key Highlights
  • Claudio Tirincanti, who drummed on the Promise and Terror tour, continued in the same role during the King of Metal tour. He was the only member from the Promise and Terror era to continue to work with Blaze.
  • This also marked the first tour with longtime guitarist Thomas Zwijsen. Zwijsen and Blaze would go on to collaborate on the albums Russian Holiday (2013) and December Winds (2018), in addition to embarking on several acoustic tours together.
  • The King of Metal tour was also the only tour during which Blaze performed material from his album King of Metal.

Setlist
The setlist for this performance predominantly highlighted Blaze Bayley’s solo work, with a strong focus on Silicon Messiah (2000) and The King of Metal (2012). Out of the 17 songs performed, five tracks were drawn from The King of Metal, including Dimebag, The King of Metal, The Rainbow Fades to Black, Fate, and Leap of Faith. Silicon Messiah was equally well-represented, contributing five tracks such as The Launch, Ghost in the Machine, Silicon Messiah, Stare at the Sun, and The Brave. While the set placed significant emphasis on Blaze's solo material, it also featured a selection of Iron Maiden classics. Lord of the Flies, The Clansman, Virus, and Man on the Edge were included. Interestingly, for the first time in years, material from The Man Who Would Not Die (2008) and Promise and Terror (2010)—albums that had heavily dominated his setlists for the past five years—was entirely absent from this performance, marking a significant shift in focus towards other material.
