The recent issue of the German magazine BLAST features an article about A Matter Of Life And Death. The Mods/Monkeys are currently discussing about how to deal with foreign-language articles, so I will not yet post a scan or full translation of the article yet, however, I will give some information on the most interesting parts here.

Prominently featured are Adrian Smith, Dave Murray and Bruce Dickinson who reveal a bit about the writing and recording process of the album. Basically, Bruce says that the whole album was done quite spontaneously, but they also had to fight with a couple of problems.

[Dave] "The piece 'Out Of The Shadows' wouldn't work at all in the rehearsal room. Bruce got quite frustrated by that. But in the studio, we could rearrange the song as a band so that it could still go on the album.

The band continue talking about the individual songwriters and how big Adrian's influence was. Finally, Bruce talks about the forthcoming tour.

[Bruce] "All those who have heard the material are completely excited. That's why we plan to bring the complete new album onstage, from the first to the last song. Then we'll play a couple of classics and good night."

Finally, Bruce also talks a bit about the band's future.

"We'll begin rehearsals in September, then the tour begins. At the moment, Japan will be the start, but maybe we'll do a couple of gigs in the USA before that. Europe will follow in November, and nothing will happen in 2007. There is supposed to be a big festival tour in 2008. That could [Emphasis by Perun] already be our final farewell." This does not come as a complete surprise, Bruce has, after all, talked about the band's end several times. It is, however, a bit shocking that the planning seems to be so exact, and Bruce notices that. "We want to stop as a band that the fans keep in good memory. Apart from that, the members won't just disappear. For my part, I still have a lot of power" (...)
Note from Perun: Before you start raving about this paragraph, let me say a couple of things. First of all, the world does not end if Maiden split. Second, Bruce has been known to say a couple of things about the band that turned out to be wrong: He announced a tour in Summer 2006, for example. Third: Take it easy and let things come their way; you won't be able to change things anyway. Fourth: This is not necessarily a leading magazine (it is actually the magazine of a label that does not distribute Maiden), and I tend to mistrust information from this type of publication. At least until it is confirmed by a more serious magazine or another band member.

The article also reviews the new album and provides a bit of rare "did you know" trivia. As I said, I might translate the complete article later on.

Thanks Perun.
Why wouldn't we have a specific topic where were could post scans and reviews and published stuff? I propose that we wait 1 or 2 month before we post the papers so when we post, the magazines are over (I mean a new issue is out and therefore we only post old material which does not significantly affect the sales of the journal).
Only published material would be posted and personal pictures etc wouldn't be allowed in that topic. In the subject of the topic the language would appear so people could choose. Posters should add a (more or less) abstract of the paper if possible.
And, obviously, the date, issue number and all relevant information would be provided (this is the meticulous side of me that's talking... -_-)
Let's discuss!

one thing about that Bruce quote. Check ALL other recent interviews and you'll see that they contradict with what they claim Bruce has said.
As Perun said, this mag is not quite the most reliable out there. The guy who did the interview probably misunderstood Bruce. Oh well...

Well said, Freaky. I'm still afraid I opened the box of Pandora, though...

And remember LittleTrooper's interview with Gers and McBrain.  They clearly said there would be more Maiden albums in the future.

Yes, absolutely: live albums, compilations of b-sides and greatest hits  :D

Maiden can continue for at least 10 years - if they want to that it.
Look at Deep Purple, Rolling Stones etc...there are older bands out there.

I don´t think they will retire anytime soon, why should they?
They have to tour to support History pt2 and what about part 3? :P
They could possibly retire around 2012 and that gives them time for at least 2 more studio releases, after AMOLAD. -_-

First off all thanks a lot for the interwiew ; some details are indeed quite interesting (especially the song Out Of the Shadows).
And then I really hope that they'll [finally] play the whole album on tour. It would really make the WHOLE album come alive. Can't wait...

Moved to the madness forum...
I think that would be a step too far.  My "spoiler" gag was not intended to be replied to three times in a row.  We need a proper discussion going here
