Best/Worst Music of 2013

Like Black Wizard I didn't really listen to many albums this year. Here's what I actually bothered to listen to.

Dream Theater - Dream Theater
Megadeth - Super Collider
5FDP - The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volumes 1&2
A7X - Hail to the King
Iron Maiden - Maiden England 88'

Dream Theater's new album is actually really good. There's a couple that I don't like. But a few of the songs like Surrender to Reason and The Bigger Picture have a very epic feel to it. It's definitely my favorite of the year. Megadeth's album was very predictable. But it wasn't terrible, well maybe Burn and Built for War were. It had a few decent tracks, and 2 amazing ones. Kingmaker is easily the best song of the album. So the album was bad, but definitely not the worst. One of my friends recommended the first volume of 5FDP's new album. So I listened to it and, it was god awful. Lift Me Up which featured Rob Halford was terrible. But strangely it was the best out of the rest of the songs. Burn MF was very childish it's probably the worst from the album. It features a cover of a rap song, which hurts my ears when I listen to it. Terrible album, just terrible. I was then told to listen to volume 2 which my friend had promised it was better. It wasn't. The album is very boring, there's nothing I like about it at all. The lead single Battleborn is a ballad that has pretty much the same lyrics has Bon Jovi's 'Wanted Dead or Alive'. I must admit it can be a bit catchy but it's ruined by the drummer who can't keep his feet of the bass pedals. Just listen to it and you'll see what I mean. I was later went to a concert of theirs, but only because Halestorm was playing. Worst 50$ I've ever spent. A7x's Hail to the King is another bad album. It isn't is bad as 5FDP's albums, but it is worse than Super Collider. The title track is a meh song. I agree with Machine Head's Robb Flynn. He said it was a cover album, and I see what he mean's. Doing Time sounds like a Guns N' Roses' song. This Means War is secretly Metallica's Sad But True, and Heretic reminds me of Symphony of Destruction. I hate the title track, but I guess a lot of people loved it, as I heard it on the local radio station 4 times in one day. If there was an award for the most boring chorus, Hail to the King would take the cake. Furthermore Iron Maidens live album is amazing. That's all. Down below are my ratings.

Dream Theater - Dream Theater: 8.5/10
Megadeth - Super Collider: 5/10
5fdp Volume 1: 2/10
5fdp volume 2: 2.5/10
A7X- Hail to the King: 4/10
Maiden England 88' - 9.5/10

Edit: I think that's my longest post here.

Hail to the King was massively disappointing, there was only one song I liked (Acid Rain). The rest was just some of the most blatant Metallica ripoffs I've ever heard. As far as I'm concerned, that band broke up after Nightmare.

Megadeth was even worse, I couldn't even get through it.

I hate FFDP with a passion, so I didn't even bother with that. I did hear that song with Halford on the radio though, I wish I could forget it. :puke:

Dream Theater and Maiden England were both awesome. I've already sung my praises on DT lately so I figured it'd be redundant to do so further in this thread. :P Maiden England is another awesome addition to the History collections. I might even prefer it to Live After Death!

Good write up Colin. Later today I think I'll post a top ten of my favorites and least favorites of 2013.
