Best New Music 2025 Edition

I am not sure if it counts as the pieces aren’t new, however I’ve really been enjoying ‘Mozart: Violin Concerto NO.5 and Piano Concertos Nos.3 & 14’. I think it is a very nice rendition of Mozarts work.

MY FAVOURITE JANUARY ALBUMS:

  • Steve Hackett - Live Magic at Trading Boundaries
  • The Halo Effect - March of the Undead
  • Yazz Ahmed - A Paradise in the Hold - EP (Jazz)
  • Grave Digger - Bone Collector
  • Avatarium - Between You, God, The Devil and The Dead

Majestica's new album Power Train. This is full-on power metal, certainly a lot to take in, but there's quality. Every song has something to offer in terms of catchiness and memorable stuff. Recommended for the genre's fans. I like Tommy's voice.

Cool cover.

The album has everything. I mean, if I have to describe the vibe of the songs:

01 - the title track is pure Sabaton, no surprise.
02 - Nightwish.
03 - Running Wild with keys.
04 - pure HammerFall.
05 - Stratovarius
06 - Sabaton agian.
07 (''A Story In The Night'' ; perhaps the best song) - a mix of Stratovarius and maybe Symphony X.
08 - Battle Beast?/80's vibe.
09 - Stratovarius/Helloween/Gamma Ray
10 - Stratovarius/HammerFall

^What a curious album.

Overall, a really enjoyable, fun and very solid album. Old school power metal. Good surprise.

Anguish Project - What's Believing

I'm not that big fan of it, my expectations were a bit higher. It's cool, but the material blends together - which is not that cool. With all that being said, actually the album is very good and solid with only a couple of songs that don't work like the others. I enjoy it a lot.
The heavier vibe, sound and some interesting use of instruments are the basis of it. They aimed the choruses to be melodic and anthemic, which is great, even though sounding same-y. Still very nice, there's quality. Only 9 songs, old school approach. A band to be noted, for me.

@Azas , I think you might like the heavy and melodic material. Check it out. ;) It's ''like'' a Bruce solo album because of the vocalist.

Highlights: the title track, ''Fadin' (Until U Die)'' and I guess the first 2 songs plus ''Heroes''.
Short review:

1.Healings For A Sinner - solid opener, similar sound and structure to most of the songs. It works. One of the songs that could be a Bruce solo material, to say (the chorus?). Tbh, the heavy riff and verses is what I expected from TMP. Shredding solo. More of a thrash metal song.

2.Living The World - I wish there was a melodic interlude, but it's very effective. Verses and chorus. Typical single.

3.title track - the best song, anthemic, great and very strong. Every part and idea is like perfect.

4.Wings Of Steel - the mid-tempo long and heavy piece, nice idea. Not that interesting, but the verses works, pre-chorus is same-y, while the chorus adds a much-needed dynamic. Cool solos (the mix is not that good here), but instead of some keys in the background, this song needed a melodic interlude. Overall, a solid song that manages to fulfill its idea.

5.Fadin' (Until U Die) - second best song for me, probably the closest to Bruce/Maiden-esque (Reunion era?) sound, not only because of the vocalist. Faster rocker. Love the verses. The half-time chorus is not bad (Helloween-esque), it's nice and works, but I would have preferred the song to continue being fast with a really soaring chorus.

6.Heroes - the semi-ballad. Quality stuff, verses and vocal ideas. Dio-esque/80's sound.

7.Calling To You - sounds like a filler, not that bad ofc. Some nice stuff like the solo, riff and chorus. Typical song for the album.

8.Say Forever - didn't impress me at all, a bit of a different song, early 2000's/nu-metal vibe. But something different is welcome for this album, despite the quality.

9.She's An Angel - a Celtic/medieval ballad with interesting sounds. It adds a cool and needed new flavor to the album. The longest song at 6:30 minutes. Dio-esque, it's nice and works as a closer. Roy's solo is cool.

Roy plays a solo in the closer. For others, idk. Good production from him.

Listened to Anguish Project - What's Believing. I agree that "the material blends together" there's no clear hit songs. It is certainly listenable but not too overly impressive. And I really do hear Bruce on vocals to some extent :) After first listening these songs stood out to me: Wings of Steel, Fadin', Heores, Calling to You, and the last song She's an Angel is nice.

edit: Wings of Steel is probably my favorite.
edit2: i think this album has potential to be a grower (not a shower, ha ha)
edit3: song Heroes... I definitely hear Nightwish's "The Phantom of the Opera" main riff/theme on this one.

MY FAVOURITE FEBRUARY ALBUMS:

FEB FAVS.png

  • Riverside - Live I.D.
  • Krokofant - 6 (Jazz Rock)
  • Thundermother - Dirty & Divine
  • Manic Street Preachers - Critical Thinking
  • The Night Flight Orchestra - Give Us to the Moon
  • Bumblefoot - …Returns!

The Darkness - Dreams on Toast was released today, 28 March. I love every other album since the comeback... So this is a good one, of course. Last one, Motorheart (2021) wasn't my thing, Easter is Cancelled (2019) was amazing, Pinewood Smile (2017) was okay-ish, The Last of Our Kind (2015) their best ever, etc.

When I summarize 2025, I'm betting this will be one of my most played records.
