Best Albums of the Decade (2010-2019)

These are all the albums I have from this decade in chronological order, I don't keep abreast of a lot of new developments in metal

Tough but accurate, I might not be old enough in terms of birthdays to be a boomer but I certainly am in terms of music taste, most things from grunge onwards are shit.

But not Ghost, evidently! I tend to agree that the period from the mid-90s through around 2010 was, at least for new bands, a dark period. I think things have gotten a bit better in the last decade or so.

I'm only exaggerating a bit for comedic effect but yeah most things since the mid 90's have been heavily influenced by things which are a total turns off for me 1) extreme metal vocals, 2) drums dominating the mix 3) emphasis on heavy rhythm rather than melodies and hooks. I've always been more of a "commercial/mainstream" metal fan and there hasn't really been a good commercial mainstream metal band between the early 90's and the emergence of Ghost.

I believe it al started with stuff like Pantera's Far Beyond Driven with a guitar sound and vocals I really despise.
And then came bands like Coal Chamber, Machine Head,... far from my alley.
Zero melody...terrible guitar sound...horrible.

Since I wrote that list I've ordered Ugly Kid Joe's "Uglier than the Used to Be" which came out in 2015, been listening on spotify and it's pretty good as well. I've been meaning to order this for years as I've seen them several times in the past decade and it's always been a great night out. There's more to them than just being an "everything about you" style novelty act. Also, worth checking out their mid 90's album Menace to Sobriety which slipped under the radar when it was released but is excellent.

Yep, I wasn’t a fan, but when I heard MTS I was very surprised, it was a huge improvement imo... but very different. Saw them on a festival on that tour. The audience only wanted to hear their older stuff.

100? Impressive but at the same time....
I don't think I would want to waste my time with wanting to hear so much new music. Life's too short!

I rather go back in time i.e. discover lots of old stuff. I know this does not sound nice and if everybody would think like myself, current/new bands (like our own!) would have zero interest (our own does not have much interest either but more than zero, since there ARE people who are interested in new music). So, yeah, it is sort of hypocrytical, but when I have time (probably way less than you karljant) to listen to music, I mostly like to dive in the past and would never play so many new releases.

Yeah. Well I guess that I rather like to finish a Hawkwind discography or listen to dozens of jazz albums I have or still wish to collect.

The problem is probably my lack of time. I need time to do stuff with the family, the band. Or read. I don't think I can even mention 10 albums from the previous decade that I enjoyed a lot. So it is not purely the stuff out there, it is me restricting myself on purpose.

Yeah... I can see where you coming from. And it's not a question of time... more of disposition and that's fine. There are weeks and weeks when all I wanna listen to are things I've listened to a zillion times.
But on the other hand I left a guiding line regarding the genre I think each album can be better described. It's worth what it's worth but it's already a filter one can use.

PS1: Hawkwind rules.
PS2: thanks for quoting my list... there were some albums switched in my top 5 (I could even let them on the same order... the difference is so minimal....)

Just in case, with old I do not (only) mean stuff I heard before. Rather especially old music I have not heard before.
