After noticing how strong so many of Maiden's opening two songs are, I was curious what you guys thought was the best combined "1-2 punch" to open a Maiden record.

I'd also say Sign of the Cross/Lord of the Flies.  But after hearing Bruce sing it on DOTR, I prefer that version.  Less of a "punch" though and more of a "slow beat down."  :rocker:

BQOBD/FHTE

TIOM/Wrathchild and WED/Revelations right behind

I love be quick or be dead, but haven't been able to get into FHTE.  Great verses, but the chorus lacks in my opinion.

I went for Ides of March/Wrathchild... This one was a very difficult decision to make.

Ides of March / Wrathchild has always been my favorite album opener.  Mainly cause it was my first experience with Iron Maiden.  I remember my friend showing me the two Iron Maiden albums, and this was the first record he put on.  This was before the number of the beast was released.  Still my favorite album of all... Killers!!!! :rocker:

Moonchild/Infinite Dreams followed by WED/Revelations. Honourable mentions: Invaders/Children of the Damned, BQOBD/FHTE and Different World/TCDR.

The fierce competition just reinforces what I thought - so many good combos to start off Maiden records.  For me it's Moonchild / Infinite Dreams, but there are 5 or 6 others that I'd be hard pressed to disagree with...

Caught Somewhere In time / Wasted Years.
Honorable Mentions: PoM, Powerslave and SSoaSS openers as I don't really like the post-reunion duos.

Indeed, very few duds like the ones for DOD, AMOLAD, and the Blaze albums...

I agree on DoD & the Blaze records, but I love the intro to AMOLAD.  My problem is pacing.  These Colours Don't Run is a hard sell as a second song.  The Pilgrim probably would have gone better there.

Wicker Man + Ghost of the Navigator barely edges out Aces High + 2MtM.  Aces High is roughly equivalent to Wicker Man -- both open their respective albums with a major kick in the nuts.  I give Ghost of the Navigator a slight edge over 2 Minutes to Midnight, though, based solely on personal preference.  Surprised no one has mentioned that duo in this thread yet, though it now has five votes (after mine).
