Are you drinking enough water?

Onhell

Infinite Dreamer
Well, even though it isn't technically summer yet, here in arizona it is already freakin' hot with highs of 107, 102 and 101 the past few days. For the first time in 5 years of being here I'm starting to feel the heat, a feeling I only remember having my very first summer I spent here. Because of this feeling of intense heat I carry with me a liter (about a quart for all you gringos) bottle of water and I'm averaging two liters (about half a gallon for all you gringos) of water a day. I've got to say I feel very good and I guess this is ONE thing the doctors had right.

Ever since I can remember it has been recommended to drink eight glasses of water a day. First of all What IS a glass? They come in all shapes and sizes... is there a standard? So I've never paid much attention to it. However I think 2 liters per day is sufficient. Not to mention the healthier benefits that come along with it. It is said (I haven't investigated) Water keeps your kidneys and intestine running smoothly (no joke there), healthier skin and not to mention it helps fight bad breath.... nothing kills the romantic mood worse than bad breath.... well maybe throwing up or farting... anywho.... ARE YOU DRINKING ENOUGH?

WATER????

My H!

I NEVER drink water!

The only thing to fear is running out of beer! [!--emo&:P--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

2L of water is actually far from enough with temperatures that high, Onhell. You're probably sweating a lot, and you should make up for that by drinking MORE than the recomended 2L/day. A hard working man in a hot environment should average about 4L/day! And remember, beer, soda, cofee and such does NOT count!
I easily gulp down 2L of water during a 12 hour work day, and then drink another litre when I get home, as I sweat tons while working (darn hot kitchen [!--emo&:P--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--] )

Water?.......oh, we don't have that in Las Vegas. It's a desert you know? [!--emo&:P--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

It's been unseasonably cold here all month: roughly 10-15 C. In the past 10 days, we've got more rainfall then we usually get in an entire year. Not much chance of heat stroke yet!

By the way, if anyone wants an interesting read on how water relates to human history, international relations, and the environment I would suggest a book by Marq De Villiers Water: The Fate of Our Most Precious Resource (Mariner Books, 2000)
According to De Villiers, most population centres in Nevada and Arizona should not exist (especially Las Vegas), because they are diverting so many rivers and consuming so much water that California's once-rich farmlands are dying.
He also thinks that in the future wars won't be fought for oil, but rather for water. (ie Israel and Jordan over rights on the Jordan River)
It really is a great book.

I'm currently researching my honours thesis on weather and its historical role....sorry to bore all of you guys!

Haha....English dont drink water, we drink 'sort of water'

Britta filtered, mineral, Robinsons high juice, touch of fruit, spring water, herbal tea (which is so horrible, it must be water), tap water, heated water, bath water, the list is endless.......

Tap water's good enough for me... Seeing as I drink out of pint glasses.. about 4/5 glasses a day? Something like that anyway

Well to answer syko: Actually I don't sweat as much as I probably should becuase like most people living in the southwest I spend most of my time indoors where it is air conditioned. I only sweat in my car (which lacks air conditioning) but because it is dry heat I don't feel it as much as say.... florida's. Now, from drinking less than 1/2 a liter a day to drinking 2 is a big jump... SO DON'T PUSH IT! [!--emo&:D--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/biggrin.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'biggrin.gif\' /][!--endemo--].

Duke: That does sound like a good book indeed and of course he is right since diverting so many rivers is causing more problems than just killing farmlands. Air Conditioning is doing it's fair share of damage since in the last decades the "average" temperatures have risen 10 degrees, so we are making the already hot desert hotter.

puppy-lighter-upper: Know that I live in the U.S I actually have enough with tap water too, back in Mexico (latin america as a whole) drinking tap water is a HUGE no-no. My mother pretty much boiling water for the past 25 years or buying bottled water kept this up here in the U.S. However Bottled water here is just a big rip off since most bottle water is exactly the same as tap water. Also, Coke and Pepsi are and their sub-companies/sister companies are selling you most of the bottle water (Aquafina and Dasani are the main ones). The only reason they are selling you bottle water is because the country is on a "we got to be healthy" trend and were losing money on the soft drink front, thus began selling water instead... it's all about the big bucks. I can't drink water. For some reason unknown to everyone I get an allergic reaction to water when I drink it. Funny thing is, if I put water in a cup of tea or a glass of squash I'm fine.

I'd like to, but the water at home tastes and smells funny, so I only drink it when it's been boiled.

How long do you have to boil it for? In Mexico people are adviced to boil their water from 20-30 min. In the U.S its a minute. How dirty is Europes water? French are OK cos they have that Evian stuff and Volvic and Vittel.
England = bad water. Boil for 6 hours.
Thats why we British are beer lovers cos water is Grade A crap.

Well, i didn't mean BOTTLED water, if that's the case Mexico has agua Sta. Maria which has 98% purity (they raised their prices once they found this out) as well as another brand of water which shall remain nameless that had 48% purity. I am a big fan of tap water (even in mexico... after 21 years i'm used to it) so that's what I meant.

German water is usually very clean, that's why I'm surpried by that stuff I get in Hamburg (which varies in quality as well). I don't think I really have to boil it, I just do so because the funny taste goes away then.
