That, too. There's a lot of references in these lyrics. Bruce is a sort of alchemist of words, he does read a lot of stuff and certainly has contact with some secret society. Ever thought about the 'personal snake oil' line? It's a clear reference to the reptilians manipulators.

Snake oil is a term that references 19th century Americans who sold medicine claiming they were cure-alls when in reality they did nothing.  Someone who sells something claiming it does something that they know it actually doesn't is said to be selling snake oil.  It was one of those things where these guys would travel from town to town selling their potions with an associate who would fake that he had an illness and then they'd take the potion and instantly be cured.  Today we (well at least in America) refer to things like diet pills or as snake oil.  Anything that promises to cure something with absolutely no potential to actually work as snake all.

Bruce in an interview in Kerrang,
"[El Dorado] has a cynical lyric about the economic crap that's been happening. It seemed a bit like a perfect storm; people were borrowing money like crazy. I thought, 'This is really going to screw people up' and sure enough, we're all in deep doo-doo! And that's what El Dorado is about, it's about selling somebody the myth that 'The streets are paved with gold' and them asking, 'Where do I sign up?'.

I know it, I read it, but it does not take away from the connection with aliens, reptilians. The snake oil term comes originally from the substance that the reptile uses to numb its prey to devour it. Look at Eddie's green carcass and its skin texture, that's a reptilian skin, Eddie's inside that. This discussion can go on and on and could be pretty interesting.

Yeah but given the context of the song, and Bruce's comments I think it appears he is talking about it in the modern sense of a deceptive sales tactic.  Selling someone something that isn't what it seems or that they can't actually afford just to profit form it.   But lyrics are always open to interpretation, that's whats so cool about well written lyrics.  You can take different meanings from them and read into them different meanings depending on your own personal beliefs and experiences.

Yeah, of course. As soon as I read El Dorado lyrics, I just thought "Holy shit! Bruce is talking about the big illusion of the capitalist consumism and the dog eat dog behaviour people are having to afford all the latest products that they see on tv!" But then, I took the lines about 'see my ship is oversold', 'you got one last chance to try', 'as my lifeboat sails away' and immedeately made the connection with Bruce's usual brilliant cryptic meaning on his lyrics, and just thought he was actually writing also about the great deceiver in the form of an alien shape shifter reptilian - 'specially due to the 'personal snake oil' line. Well, maybe Bruce will say that he didn't even thought about this issue, even in cryptic form on its lyrics, but maybe he's just ashamed to talk about this kind of stuff and get tagged as mad :P But seriously, for a man who made a movie about Aleister Crowley and an album about William Blake, he's all about these kinds of themes, even if in cryptic manner, which incites the mind of the most open minded listener, like myself.

I think there's a difference between the occult and the reptilian conspiracy theory though. Bruce's interest in the occult is purely out of finding it "neat". Which is understandable, as it is very interesting - Lovecraft, Dee, Crowley, etc. I find it really interesting too.

I find the occult interesting. I don't believe in it - I'm an atheist and a skeptic - but it's always neat to see what stuff people believed.

Hum... an atheist have a belief that there is no god, so you end up believing in something, anyway. I also like to know what people's opinions and beliefs are. I just don't like when they laugh on the face of what they don't know 'cos in the end, everything has an importance and an ideal.

+1.  I  even have a subscription to Skeptic magazine.  I love that publication.

It's totally odd and misplaced having a publication about the occult called Skeptic magazine. Occultists are generally all believers in their stuff.

I don't, but I tap in to the skeptic community a lot. Do you read Bad Astronomy?

I check the site, but I haven't read his book, should I get it?  I'm a big fan of Dawkins, Harris, Hitchence, and Dennet as well.

Skeptic magazine is about debunking beliefs and claims of the supernatural among other things by using scientific methods.  It has nothing to do with the occult, quite the opposite.

Both his books are pretty cool. Death From The Skies is way better than Bad Astronomy. I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to his TV show on Discovery. I'm assuming you watch Bullshit! as well?

Yes.  I had to rent them all from Netflix as I don't subscribe to Showtime, but it's a great show.
