Album Suggestions for a Newbie

Given that you already have checked in the first (self-titled) and the fifth album (Powerslave), it would only be natural to fill in those gaps with the second (Killers), third (The Number of the Beast) and the fourth album (Piece of Mind).

The live album Live After Death was released during the tour they had after the release of Powerslave, anyway. Keep going down the road with those album and loop back to the material again with that live album.

If you'd have a taste for more, continue going chronologically.

I don't often see this suggested, but i'm suggesting it: If you want to dive into a studio album that captures the widest range of Maiden's sounds, i'd go for Book of Souls. It's got short fast rockers, longer epics, mid range epics, and in general, if you find a song you like, there's an album with that song's sound all over it. I find the other studio albums lean into a particular sound more while Book of Souls captures all of there influences in reasonably equal measure.

I second this. I think Dance of Death is a similar album in this respect. Personally, I prefer DOD but BOS is still excellent.

If I could start all over again with the Maiden discography as in, have my mind wiped so that I’d never heard a thing, I would love to discover the music by literally starting at the debut and going through chronologically.

What a journey that would be for a new fan. Start at the beginning rather than jump around. I’d listen to the live albums as they fit too. I mean live after death would surely sound better having listened to the first 5 albums first.
