Album Pickups

Riggatoni

Trooper
I don't know if many people still collect vinyl and cds these days, but I still do (mainly cds).
So share any pickups of any band's album and please share pictures!

It's about time I got these albums. IMO, they are the best albums for their respective bands.

Fun fact: Toxicity got me into metal and slowly planted the seed for me to really get into rock music in general. The story was that my dad would plug in his phone in the car for the gps, and it would repeatedly automatically play A.T.W.A from his itunes, since that happened to be the first song in alphabetical order in his song list. This happened several times, and I was intrigued by the song; the beginning part was calm and serene, but in a melancholy way. I was so intrigued, I asked my dad about the song; he proceeded to play the whole album. My mind was blown; I had never heard anything heavier and more extreme in my life. At first it was a bit abrasive for me... but the album captivated me and I was starting to get into the heavier music. My father is not a metal person (this is probably the heaviest album he likes), so the heaviest song I had heard up to that point was probably Down to the Sickness.

I haven't bought a CD in ages.... What I have picked up recently was a Discman LOL. I sold my car and I HATE Spotify/Apple music apps and just smarphones in general. So I bought one that plays regular CDs, MP3 CDs, USB thumb/external drives, Blutooth connection AND has a pretty good built in speaker. It comes with a rechargeable battery that uses the same cable as my cellphone. It will be very handy now that I'll be doing a lot of walking and taking public transportation

Two things bummed me out, it doesn't have FM radio and the built-in battery. I would've much preferred it used double AAs as I have a few rechargeable ones and that way it can technically last forever like my old walkman. But with this built-in battery once it goes it'll be cheaper to buy a new one than replace the battery.

It has, however already saved the day. I have a TSO MP3 CD with Christmas Eve and Other Stories, The Christmas Attic and The Lost Christmas. about 3 hours worth of music. I sold my car on my brother's bday to my ex brother-in-law. I brought it with me, because I was going to ride the bus back home, instead he gave me a ride and I never took it out of my backpack. I took it with me to my brother's gettogether and the first thing I noticed was they had NO music. He explained they don't have a radio and they don't have internet at the moment and they don't really miss it, but it still felt awkward. So I pulled my Discman out, put it on the kitchen counter and let it play. It made for great background music.

I rarely buy CDs, pretty much just whenever there’s an Iron Maiden album at this point. I’ll probably buy The Mandrake Project when that comes out. They take up so much space, don’t really offer anything in terms of audio quality and are pretty much worthless (with few exceptions, you almost always end up spending more than you’re ever going to get back if you decide to sell off your collection).

I have a large vinyl collection but have cut back significantly there as well, less because I don’t like vinyl (I do) and more because of logistics. I travel so much that maintaining a vinyl collection that I never use isn’t very sensible. At some point when I’m living in one place more consistently, I would love to expand my record collecting.

On the whole streaming has been a godsend and I think it is a gift when used properly. The audio quality and user experience has improved a lot since streaming launched as well. Streaming has simultaneously cheapened music and also creates more access for both the fan and the artist. I wish it actually paid the artists though.

Anyway, the last album I bought on vinyl was Fauna by Haken earlier this year. Last CD, not sure, maybe Senjutsu.

I usually go to a record store once or twice a month and grab some cd's and vinyls. I used to buy loads of albums online but these days I prefer exploring the stores. It's definitely not the cheapest hobby for a student but I think it's damn cool.

When I was a teen I used to go to the record stores and explore albums and bands, new releases, recommendations from the owner. I also usually looked for some albums reviews in Metal Hammer magazine.
I spent all the money that my parents gave me the weekends to buy 1 or 2 albums or pirate tapes or Metal Hammer monthly issue. One of my friends who shared this hobby and passion for this kind of music also bought other albums and sharing these ones each other.

Late 80's and early 90's started to buy vinyls. 1995 I started to buy cds because The X factor album. The last ten years I didn' buy too many cds. Just some Jethro Tull box sets, Senjutsu and some bargains I found last year including Maiden England double CD, The Bruce Dickinson's expanded cd editions of Chemical Wedding, Accident of Birth, Skunkworks...and Best of Motorhead from 2000 (I play it in the car often)

The last Cd I bought was early this year I think. It was Charlotte Planchou album 'Petite' (French Vocal Jazz) released in 2021. And The latest Zaz album called 'Isa' also released in 2021.

I usually listen albums trough iTunes or Youtube. If the album likes me a lot and I consider it 5 stars or Masterpiece then I ordered it. or wait for a bargain to buy them very cheap. I also have a disc man like Onhell and play the cds trough a small speakers, I can't put headphones because I have earing issues.

I share my favorite albums I listen through the years in the Best New Music Edition thread since a couple of years. I usually listen several kind of music styles: Metal, Prog Rock, Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Rock, Classic Rock, Pop, Classical …

There's something about exploring for cds/vinyls that makes going to the store more interesting. Also, you don't have to wait for shipping to listen to it.

I only buy a cd if I consider the album a masterpiece as well; I'm very picky about the cds I buy.

Yes I still buy CD’s, actually in 2023 I have bought quite alot compared to the last years. I have a collection with about 1400 albums now. Love to buy hidden treasures from the Discogs marketplace, other special releases from a specialised metal music shop in the city and online from a more mainstream place. Also love to spend hours in local music shops when I’m traveling. A couple of years ago I was staying a few weeks here and there in Denmark for work, and I found this huge music/movies/books/comics store that had tons of rare stuff, I spent literally hours there during my freetime. At one of those trips I went back home with 23 CD’s in my baggage. My wife must know now that I must leave my wallet back home the next time:nonono:

My last couple of purchases was the new Children of bodom live album, Amorphis - Eclipse, Gamma ray - Skeletons and majesties and a few Dark Moor albums.

I still buy physical media but not as much as I used to. I still like to pickup music by favourite artists. I’m not one for taking a punt with a band if I haven’t heard it before.

I really like CD box sets. I recently just picked up Songs from the Wood by Jethro Tull and Harvest by Neil Young. They are excellent.
