Adrian Smith Under Rated?!

hmmm since nobody got the joke I'll have to explain. Someone had posted that Maiden as a whole was underrated (you look for it i'm not going to do it for you... scroll up) Then I joked that how can an underrated band influence so many people by mentioning Helloween, because Helloween are underrated. Mainly due to the fact that they don't produce mind-blowing material except once every 10 years, yet there are countless Helloween clones running around the European continent...

Adrian Smith is a highly skilled Olympic-level pole vaulter who has broken the world record in his backyard just for fun ... but he doesn't compete because it's just a hobby for him.

Adrian Smith can calculate pi to three thousand decimal places in under forty seconds.

Adrian Smith is overqualified.

Adrian Smith is the prototype for a clone army which he keeps hidded in the Scottish highlands, just in case. When George Lucas stole this idea for a bad movie, Adrian Smith ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

Adrian Smith makes the homies say "Ho!" and the girlies wanna scream.

Agreed, but there is a 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 to 1 chance that it will end up in the madness forum with all this "Adrian is the sun and the moon and sings me lullybies at night" talk.

I think the three Maiden's guitarists are also under rated because they're all 'lead guitarists'. People prefers things to be clear, with only one guitarist, or well defined roles between both.
None of the three is ahead of the others.

I wonder if Malcom Young is on the list ? For me, he's the most under rated guitarist because he's a rythm guitarist and nobody cares about them. For example, 'Thunderstruck', if very impressive, is in fact very easy to play. But Malcom's rythm part on this one is more difficult : only one note, but an amazing groove !

Actually, there are many guitarists who are best-known as lead players, but whose rhythm guitar work is underrated. Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen and Stevie Ray Vaughan all come to mind, and I'm sure there are many more.

As far as pure rhythm guitarists go, I'd agree Malcolm Young is one of the best. So was James Hetfield, at least back in the 1980s. And even though he solos occasionally, Dave Mustaine is mostly a superb rhythm guitarist. (I heard Mustaine played all the solos on the new Megadeth album, does anyone know if that's true?)

No : Chris Poland, first Megadeth Lead guitarist, plays lead guitar on this (very-very-very-good) album. (there's only one song where he doesn't play)

Each time I've seen Dave Mustaine playing live, I always was impressed by his rythm playing. [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/bowdown.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'bowdown.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

So true. Dream Theater comes to mind. Incredibly talented musicians to the point where it's almost absurd, but the music is just plain boring to me. Too much fret wanking and timeshifts, too little of the stuff that makes a good song great: composition, melody and that "special" something - groove, feeling, whatever - you know what I mean [!--emo&;)--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

(Yeah, sorry, kinda uncreative lately [!--emo&:P--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--])

Dream Theater is alright, I'd say. The musicians are some of the most talented out their, and their singer is sensational, to say the least. However, for a progressive metal band...well, they aren't very progressive. [!--emo&;)--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--] The music never really changes a lot. They do have their highlights, however. Stream Of Conciousness is one of the best instrumentals I've heard, and Space-Dye Vest is a very good album closer with a lot of atmosphere.

Off-topic. Damn. Uh, Adrian Smith is the Rareware of metal.

Well Dream Theater is like Opeth, you either get it or you don't, you can't kinda like it, either love it or be bored with it. It took me a year to fully appreciate Images and Words and it has taken me well over two years to understand Opeth's "genius". The only reason I've been so patient with both was because I knew there was something great there I wasn't getting... and when I did.... WOW. That also happened to me with certain Maiden songs. Rime of the Ancient Mariner. I liked it but was very blah about it. Yet lately... Man i'm playing it over and over it just fucking rocks...
