Well let's just say that it is highly likely that he enjoys his songwriting if he picks out one of his tunes to cover :p

And for your second point: no that would just be silly. You'd really have to have an enormous amount of hate for Dylan if that was to effect how you looked at Mr. Smith ;)

I thought I had so much hate for Dylan before...but now, it has lessened because you made a good point. :P But I still don't like him. :grumble:

So what? I don't find anything bad about covering somebody's song. If anything, it shows appreciation of the song. You don't mind Maiden covering Doctor, Doctor, right? As long as the cover has its own sound and individuality, there's nothing wrong with it.

However good a song is, I prefer to see an artist doing his own songs. But indeed, a few b-sides now and then isn't bad (That Girl is even in my top 50!)

And my point also was: let's see which one is next. Maybe there is more we've never realized before.

@Mckindog: What do you think of Misunderstood's mid section? What a magnificent ride!
Go to 2:07.
It starts Rushy (a part that also closes the song very well with a nice fade out), then another singer enters and it launches into one of the best solos (perhaps the best even!) of the album. A song within a song.

Adrian doing a Bob cover is awesomeness! I think people forget that Dylan influenced a lot of people in metal bands too...Priest took their name from one of his songs for example :p

Maiden did nothing but covers for b-sides for 20 years or so :p

As long as an artist got original material on the actual album I don't see the problem.

I think it is fabulous. Agree it could also be the best solo on the album.
The song itself is fine, but a bit ordinary.
Overall, Silver and Gold has remarkably consistent songwriting — not one on there I dislike, lots of great melodies.
But I think it disappoints from the production standpoint — the rhythm guitars don't have enough edge, the vocals are too far down the tunnel and the keys seem to wash the other parts out.
I've posted elsewhere that Adrian definitely modelled his approach on Gary Moore's terrific Run For Cover album.
Had Silver and Gold been given Run For Cover sound, instead of a weak imitation thereof, it would have been truly great.
As it is, I enjoy it a lot and always have. Listening to it right now.

I like covers. Just so long as they're done good.
Yeah, me too. Love to hear songs I love interpreted by other artists. Love to hear artists I love put their spin on tracks I never would have considered.
Great example is when Judas Priest covered some folk singer, right Sixes? :smartarse:
