AC/DC IN VANCOUVER?

Ok, that actually makes sense to me.  I had never thought of it in that light, but that does catagorize it in a simple and easy to understand way.

Thanks

So, with that in mind, I would def say AD/DC was 'harder' early on and 'heavier' later on.

And, SMX, how would you catagorize 'High Voltage'?  Seems like a lot of it isn't even that 'hard'.. thats just my opinion.

I was wrong in that statement.  I was listening to some AC/DC recently, and based on your description (with which I agree), I need to change that to "they were hard early, but got harder later".  The stories they told didn't have much 'depth' to them, but they had more 'drive' to the songs.  But I still don't know if I would call the first few albums 'hard' based today, but, probably for the time, they were.

Where's Rainbow on your scale? Uriah Heep? Black Sabbath? Scorpions? What about Deep Purple, Motörhead or UFO?

It's not a scale. It's a binary categorization. A band is either hard rock or heavy metal, according to the spirit of what I posted above.

And they fall out this way...

Rainbow, Scorpions, Purple and UFO are hard rock.
Sabbath and Motorhead are heavy metal.
Uriah Heep I don't know well enough to categorize.

Although in my mp3 tags, I label Purple as "classic rock". They rise to the level where they transcend genre. Just like Beatles, Stones, Zep, Who and Queen. I don't use "classic rock" to describe an era of rock history like some people do. Bands have to earn the "classic" label with their music.

I did not want to start a new thread...

So here is an update on AC/DC's upcoming album.  Officially, they're in studio recording it.  At the end of this news tidbit is an 80s interview with Angus and Brian.

"The waiting is almost over! AC/DC fans can expect the band's next album of new material sometime later this year. The band are currently recording in Vancouver with producer Brendan O'Brien and long time audio engineer Mike Fraser. This will be the band's first collection of new material since the release of Stiff Upper Lip in 2000."

According to Reuters, the new album will be AC/DC's first for Sony BMG's Epic Records label, which reissued the band's back catalog a few years ago.
