A question about 12 Wasted Years Video

Hello there,
I used to watch this a lot back in the days before YouTube and the bits that particularly fascinated me were the early footage with Paul di'anno.
One thing that has always intrigued me is the version of Prowler that is heard during some B&W archival footage of Neil Kay getting out of his white Jag, walking up to the Bandwagon (footage from the 20th Century Box documentary).
I used to assume that it was the original Soundhouse Tapes version as I had never heard the EP and it was quite a fast and furious sounding version.

You can imagine my surprise when I finally got my hands on an original version of the EP (6 weeks worth of savings from my paper-round when I was 16!) and heard how much slower it was than that version or even the album version.

So, my question is where does this version come from?

Whilst we're on the subject, what about the little audio segments that are heard as 'Arry enters the Ruskin Arms for his interviews. It's clearly taken from a live gig back in '79/'80. We hear Paul saying "Nah, he's alright, he's alright. This is......err, I forgotten what it is!"
Does anyone know exactly what that is taken from.

Hi Jenkins. After seeing 12WY for the first times I became also intrigued by knowing that this Prowler version wasn't from Soundhouse Tapes. It was probably taken from a live tape recorded at The Bandwagon or Marquee Club. You'll have to listen the bootlegs from this era to know.

The quote "Nah, he's alright, he's alright.." is Paul Di'Anno's speech before Charlotte The Harlot song on Live At Ruskin video. You can only actually see it in the Early Days DVD.

Thanks for the reply Iira,
Strange that they used a bootlegged recording rather than the actual Soundhouse Tapes recording isn't it.
I need to get hold of the Early Days DVD. I've seen the interview segments on YouTube but some things you just have to own. I can remember him saying "Lets see all them little fingers, come on, yeah I was waiting for that" before Charlotte on the 12WY clip.

When I was 16 (back in '93) I actually wrote a letter to LWT (?) about the 20th Century Box footage used on 12WY and whether they could supply me with a copy of the whole documentary. They wrote back saying that it would cost me somewhere in the region of £60. I was that obsessed a fan back then that I seriously considered making the purchase, but ultimately decided against it.
Glad that I did because the following year I got a whole VHS worth of early 'Maiden bootleg stuff and the entire documentary was on there. And it definitely wasn't worth £60! I originally thought that maybe there was more complete performances on the documentary of Drifter and Phantom, and maybe more. Of course there wasn't - except for a tiny bit more of Phantom.

I'd donate one of testicles to have been at that Marquee performance. The atmosphere must have been electric.
I've never quite got over the impact that those performances of Drifter and Phantom had on me.
I must have watched that Drifter intro and Phantom segment hundreds of times.

I also got my hands on Live + 1 around that time so managed to get hear the full Drifter performance.

Great days

Well 20th Century Box is a documentary and therefore you shouldn't expect to see complete performances. Although they probably had (have) footage for the complete songs, what you're asking them is for the master and unedited tapes, which would be the coolest thing to achieve.

The documentary would do us more than favor if such ridiculous cardboard interview and playing could be replaced for real live music...
