2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil

Portugal is 5 goals behind USA. Ghana is only 2. If Ghana plays again with Portugal like they did with Germany, Portugal will need a miracle.

USA: "A giant step for the 1\8".

I don't want Ghana to go through. Bored the hell out of me in the last cup when everyone cheered for them.

Van Gaal really doesn't rate Huntelaar, does he? O.o I expected him to start when Van Persie got suspended...

While I do find this funny, I think the English media are too obsessed with blaming Rooney. He's not been the only player in the team to play poorly. In fact, he was involved in both goals they have scored so far.

The whole team has been very average.

The way Holland dispatched Chile was very clinical, and matter of fact. They never dominated, and at times, were actually under the cosh, but any time they got the ball near the Chilean area, they looked dangerous. And unlike previous Holland teams in more recent times, who had great individuals, but seemed to be lacking in team spirit, this Holland team have a great team spirit. And that could be the difference for them this time, as I think they have a great chance of lifting the trophy. :)

Here types a happy man!
Dirk Kuyt is playing as a left back?! :D Van Gaal channeling his inner Allegri :D
Kuijt did great. My hero! :notworthy: This contributed to the tactics to -indeed effectively!- not let Chile get into their favourite game.

Not a good first half from us and in halftime the Chile coach took the player out who had some (minor) chances. In the 2nd half Chile had hardly a chance. Not a good move from that coach.

Van Gaal, however, had excellent subs. He knew that Chile always plays less (intense) in the last 15 minutes and he brought creativity (Depay) and length (Fer). Both scored.

By the way: While I am writing this, Van Gaal says in an interview that for 5 weeks he taught Kuijt to play left back. :)

Tonight decision between Mex and Cro. Cro needs to start rolling immediately because point is not enough, we need to win.
Bosnia was screwed by referee decision. Yes they didn't play that well, they effectively missed left back because Susic somehow thought that two offensive left wings will be able to permanently retain possession on that side. Misimovic and whoever was playing adjacent position were done after a 45 minute chase for Nigerian right winger who penetrated constantly.

BUT, Bosnia scored a regular goal, at 0-0 score, that was nullified because of line judge and his offside call. On rewind, it's clear that Dzeko was a full meter behind last-in-defense.
Some minutes after Nigeria scored, and that was how it concluded.

After situations like this, where Bosnian team were effectively denied advancement because of referee error, it's clear we need some sort of feedback from 4th referee or any of FIFA/UEFA staff that would check the rewinds, and communicate that to match referee. Game is stopped regardless of outcome, goal or offside, so taking 10-15 seconds more to recheck and signal a mistake would not harm normal game flow at all.

I haven't watched France vs Honduras but I understand that multi-cams (eg. Goal-Line Technology(R)(TM)(C)(whatever)) were used to determine one goal. Maybe this is first step toward more application on-field.

P.S. some more info regarding Bosnian selection. Seems like Safet Susic lost a part of his authority while deciding who will go to world cup on position of reserve offensive midfielder. He was up to selecting Tino Susic, his niece, but team wanted Senijad Ibricic. So they did a deal to allow his nepotism if he calls them both, which he did. So began calculations and little power struggles, like allowing the team to direct their preparations into Sarajevo, where they could enjoy nightlife, instead of being somewhere more appropriate.

In any case, Tino Susic went in against Nigeria, which means that Hajduk Split was represented on a World Cup game, something that occurred each time Croatia played a world cup. Funny it was now through Bosnia. Another player (Vrsajevic) is also current Hajduk player, but he remained on the bench throughout the tournament.

I only saw the final bit of injury time for the Netherlands-Chile game, to see the finishing goal. Awesome. Definitely cheering for the Netherlands now, 2nd only to the USA for me. And we all know the USA won't win.

Portugal are a really average team now. Take away Ronaldo and they're nothing.

.. except maybe a team. What sort of captain refuses to celebrate his team-mate's goal, or talks openly about how shit the team is? It's not his job to criticize his teammates directly after they have played a poor match.
