Criss d'ostie! Post your reviews here, and don't forget to use the spoiler tags where appropriate. Thanks.

Iron Maiden has been coming through Quebec more in the past few years than they have at any time in their career. Every tour has hit this province as well as extra shows on their way to Japan and Ozzfest. It is fantastic.

This was a great show. I love shows in Montreal because the crowds are so great. And loud. This show was packed right to the top of the grey section all the way around. Really awesome to see such a huge turnout.

The band was all right on and the sound in the Bell Centre was great. I had GA floors but stayed back a bit to enjoy the show and the sound was perfect.

Bruce didn't do too much talking but he did banter a bit in French. Although sometimes I think he just likes to say 'ce soir'. :)

I don't know what set-up they are using for Bruce's vocals but they were sometimes inaudible. Especially coming in at the beginning of songs and verses. Almost as if the mic was off then turned up slowly as he sang. Or sometimes like he was singing away from the mic (in some cases he was). It didn't seem like technical problems, more like the sound guy (or Bruce) wasn't paying attention at times.

Not as many signs and flags as I've seen at other Maiden shows in Montreal but the fans were great. Some sustained crowd cheers at several points in the show. The crowd was into it all night
even through all the new material.

Bruce said the new album was #2 in Canada to great applause. "But," he said, "in Quebec it is #1." The crowd went nuts at that.

When Fear of the Dark started
a huge roar came from the crowd. And I didn't think it could get any louder in there. LOL

This is the first Maiden show I can remember when a 10' Eddie didn't come on stage. Though the 'big tank' Eddie is pretty cool.

A great show.

PS.
I didn't really like any of the T-shirts so I didn't get one. The last few tours, the tour shirt designs have not been any better than any Maiden shirt I can buy at a head shop for $15. So why pay $45 (!!) at a show? In fact all the merch was really expensive...

You actually made me laugh Mav

Anyway
The show was great as usual, I had a great time. The only thing I would've changed is the order of the songs. I mean playing all the songs from the album in the same order they appeared on the cd is nice and all but I would've prefered if they had changed the order and played some old songs throughout the set instead of playing them all at the end. As good as the songs are on the album, it just felt like "ok, we've done that song, let's do the next one". When Fear of the Dark started, the crowd went fucking wild, a thrash (don't know how it's called in english) started and I was carried away with it (I think I may have hurt my leg when it happened lol). I ended up thirsty as hell, with my elbow and leg hurt, got a headache shortly after but it was well worth it

And there was a photographer, I actually seen him taking shot before and during the set.

So my friends and I flew all the way to Montreal from Halifax for one night to see this show.  There were more people wearing Iron Maiden shirts on the streets of Montreal than I've ever seen in my life, and there were even a few on the same flight as we were.  For whatever reason, we weren't able to get floor tickets, but our seats were pretty decent.  Lower bowl, the band was at our 10:00, so we had a great view, though being on the floor would have been better.  Maybe they'll come through Moncton or Halifax on their next tour, but I guess I shouldn't hold my breath.

The opening band wasn't too bad.  They were certainly a diversion, but they said they were grateful and honored to share the stage with the likes of Iron Maiden, and they recognized the crowd's impatience, so the act went smoothly.  I don't think they sounded too great, but I might look into them further if I get the time.

Maiden eventually started playing, and Bruce lept out of nowhere to start singing Different World.  I guess I finally appreciate just how great they are at showmanship.  The crowd was really into the new album, and it seemed like people were doing pretty well with getting the cues and lyrics right.  I think that 'The Longest Day' has some of the best potential for being a crowd favorite, it's got such a perfect chorus for huge chanting audiences.  Things got a little slow during the last few songs of A Matter of Life and Death, but they picked up immediatly once the band began playing Fear of the Dark.  That was probably the high point of the show actually: the crowd's elation at hearing FOTD.  The action continued through Iron Maiden wherein Eddie came out of the tank, then the encore after a minute or two of solid applause.

The setlist was a little strange, and it wouldn't have been my first choice.  A Matter of Life and Death is good enough to stand on its own, there's no doubt.  But, as far as giving a good show, it would have been nice to hear some classic songs in the mix.  All the old ones that have been played to death?  Yeah, they're so overplayed because everyone knows them, and everyone loves them.  When everybody in a room the size of a stadium knows and loves the same song, the feeling is incredible.  Once the new album has been out for a few years and everyone knows it by heart, then there'll be some good live action.  I'd certainly be thrilled if the band played Brave New World in its entirety some day, and soon enough, I'll feel the same about this album.

Now here are some pictures I took for your pleasure:

Iron Maiden ended around 10:30 pm. Maybe a few minutes later. I was able to catch the whole set and still make the 11 pm bus back to Ottawa.
