    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

I have no problem with what Maiden is doing here, but I think the argument that could be made, if someone really wanted to is that modern day Japan has more of a cultural link to the past than present day Egypt currently does to the time period represented on Powerslave as far as culture and...

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

I’d like to nominate Queensryche’s “Dedicated To Chaos” as the worst metal album ever.

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

I remember my reaction to Wasted Years being released. It was, “fuck yeah, new Maiden!”. In hindsight, I’d like to go back to a time when I wasn’t such a nit picky, over analytical music fan.

I totally understand where you’re coming from. When I was about 15 in 1989 I had been playing guitar for about 3 years and I was convinced that all other genres of guitar player sucked outside of metal and no music could be more complex. Then my instructor gave me a bunch of Allan Holdsworth...

The production is great as well. Metal hadn’t had an album with that type of super slick production up to that point. Of Wolf and Man never gets enough love. I also have no problem with poppy, lots of amazing musicians and song writers out there and the majority of them don’t play metal.

Powerslave 2, containing the smash hits, “Deuces Wild”, “It‘s Still Not Midnight Quite Yet”, and “I’ve Returned To The Village Yet Again”.

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

You know what’s so funny is, if Maiden did come out with “Powerslave 2“ that the part of the fanbase that was clamoring for them to do it, would then complain that played too much of it live and it was taking up setlist space where they should be playing the classics.

Yes, I understood your response to @johnglen, I even largely agree with much of what you have said in the post above. My apologies if I worded it in a way that caused you believe I didn’t understand your post.

That’s fair. I just think it’s better to not try and divide fans based on their nationalities. None of us would be spending our time here if we weren’t die hard fans. I think the bigger issue is, somehow there is a subset of the fanbase, who even after the last 4 albums still thinks the next...

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

I just want to add a little levity to this conversation. I’ve taken my 12 year old daughter to Maiden twice, 11th row center on the Legacy of the Beast tour (Tweeter Center only removes the first 10 rows of floor seats for general admission and the rest of the floor is assigned seating) and on...

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

Your post was largely on point until this statement. American’s being fickle doesn’t mean die hard Maiden fans don’t deserve good music (and I’m not saying I don’t think recent Maiden isn’t good). And all Maiden selling out South American stadiums 25 years ago tells me is that the South...

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

I loved your entire post, but I just want to say this times 1000. Wagener also used 16 mics on the cabs on top of running it through George’s Fostex as you mentioned. What an unreal tone, and that‘s without even mentioning Lynch’s playing on that album. The list of guitar tones that Michael...

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

Yes, but none of that shows that the ”failure” of 7th Son was what led to NPFTD being terrible. Dickinson had already moved on from his classic style at that point, as demonstrated by “Tattooed Millionaire“, he wasn’t particularly good live, even on the older material on that tour, and he...

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

Look, I greatly dislike NPFTD, but your statement about what Maiden’s stylistic direction would have been had 7th Son done better in the States, or if it had any impact at all is simply baseless, unless you have some interview or comments which explicitly say otherwise, in which case I’m more...

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

7th Son landed at #12 on the US chart, while Powerslave topped out at #21. That’s not obviously not an abject failure. Though like you, I’m old enough to have purchased Powerslave when it was released (though once again I had to wait for my parents to come home so they could drive me to Good...

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

You’re probably going to take a lot of crap for that opinion, but I agree with you. The thing is, when that came out metal bands weren’t doing songs of that length. The hard rock magazines and press at the time made a huge deal over it and the fans often looked to it a source of pride, like...

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

That‘s one of the reasons I went with the Paradigm 9H speakers, the beryllium drivers are bright, and the whole speaker seems to be voiced a bit bright, so I figured, as I approach 50 and lose more of those high end frequencies, I better make up for it somehow, lol.

Yes, great solo. Your point about Bruce’s phrasing is spot on, that along with the fact that his enunciation was always so good in a genre where that can be very difficult. I think that’s the thing I’m not really crazy about on TWOTW, it’s like everything about the vocals feels just slightly...

New Single - The Writing on the Wall

Off topic a bit, and I suppose I could look for YouTube footage, but I’d rather not be super disappointed, is Sebastian‘s voice totally shot these days? Slave To The Grind was such a fantastic vocal performance (and great album all the way around) I saw them several times on that tour with...

Lol. Not many metal albums with a better Side A, or 6 consecutive tracks on par with what POM opens with, right? I fully agree with you. The guy can still sing, no about about it, and he can still hit those notes, but he sounds so strained doing it. I know it’s over 20 years old now, but The...
