Official Maidenfans poll: Favorite Maiden guitarist 2015

... although in the interests of balance I've gotta say my favourite numbers from DOD and BNW were both H's - Paschendale & The Wicker Man

Official Maidenfans poll: Favorite Maiden guitarist 2015

I think it's a little difficult to compare H & Jan's songwriting as H is so much more prolific. I think H's songwriting took a bit of a dip on TBOS - the strongest tracks for me were Bruce's IESF, Steve's TRATB and the title track, which was Jan & Steve. My favourite track from TFF was actually...

    The Unbeliever

Anyone else notice the similarity between the chorus of this song and The Thin Line Between Love & Hate? The "all my life I've run astray, let my faith slip away" bit from The Unbeliever is nearly identical to the "I will hope my soul will fly" bit from Thin Line

    Only the Good Die Young

    9. Good chorus, great lyrics, awesome guitar melodies, top-drawer guitar solos, plus that brilliant little bass semi-solo..... Love it.

Brave New World: individual album judgement by yours truly

I read an interview with Adrian where he said some of the songs on BNW were leftovers from VXI. I can't say for sure, but I have the feeling Maiden kinda rushed this album, in the excitement of Adrian & Bruce's return. I think it's a good album, and out of the 6-man-Maiden albums I'd probably...

    The Wicker Man

9 - possibly my favourite track on BNW. Great song. As an aside, anyone else notice the similarity between this song's main riff and the verse riff on Futureal?

The Book of Souls: General album discussion

Zare - entirely agree with your comments regarding the production and Davey's performance. I'm also on your side regarding Shadows of the Valley... I'm not nearly as impressed as some are with this song. However I think Red+Black is the strongest song on the album (how can you not love that riff...

    Infinite Dreams

    10. One of Steve's finest moments, particularly the instrumental section. Even on an album of such brilliance as Seventh Son, this manages to stand out as a highlight

    Brighter Than A Thousand Suns

I wouldn't disagree with this .... but the only amendment I'd make is to say I think that "Brighter..." and "For the Greater Good of God" are the two best songs they've written since '88

Favourite song that Janick Gers and Steve Harris made

For me it's The Talisman, but The Legacy comes a very close second. Also The Book of Souls has really grown on me. It's got a hell of a chorus.

    Hooks In You

7... on the grounds that the chorus is catchy and the instrumental bit's pretty good. I might be being a bit generous. But it is sharing a side of vinyl with The Assassin and Bring Your Daughter, so that will help it sound good purely by comparison!

    The Number of the Beast

Having said that, I do love the guitar solos and the whole instrumental section

    The Number of the Beast

    7. This seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I'm really not a big fan of this song. I think it's pretty overrated. On this album I prefer Hallowed, Acacia, Children, The Prisoner and, yes, Invaders...
