    Wrathchild

Re: Daily Song: Wrathchild I'll go along with those giving it an 8.  Not a masterpiece but a highly energetic, catchy tune.

    On repetitive choruses

Have you guys listened to pop music lately (either accidentally or by choice?)  Repetition is the name of the game.  That's how you create a hook to draw the listener in.  While Maiden's certainly not the poppiest metal band around, they do have a knack for creating catchy songs - and repeating...

    Satellite 15 mix defect

LC, I think I originally used that word... not the effect I intended.  I'm certain no one in the group is concerned about it in the slightest.

Can heavy metal singers actually sing?

Exactly. Not that I need to have my tastes analyzed and affirmed by an expert, but it sure feels nice!  For instance, she would probably tear Dave Mustaine apart, yet he fronts one of my favorite groups and is enjoyable because of the personality he injects into the performances, not necessarily...

    On repetitive choruses

Slow clap. I feel Brave New World had more than AMOLAD, and even that one wasn't bad about it at all: only on a few songs, and all of them melodically varied and interesting enough to make it a moot point.

How many years/albums has Iron Maiden got left in them?

Ok, ok, I recant.  One of the best shows I've ever been to.  I'm just saying the material isn't as intrinsically demanding as the coordination and execution of faster songs by a six-piece band like Maiden.  Dio was top-notch.  Also saw them rehearse in Van Nuys as part of a sweepstakes thing...

Are you pleased with Maiden's direction?

I understand where you're coming from.  I love The Longest Day; Greater Good, less so.  So would it be the song structures you don't like, or more of the repetitive choruses like Invader said?

    The Final Frontier Reviews Thread

Sounds about right to me.  I would probably give it an extra point or so,  if only because I seem to have enjoyed the first half of the album more.  You are right that it is much more colorful than AMOLAD. I liked that one a lot as a pseudo-concept album, but it is nice to have so much melodic...

How many years/albums has Iron Maiden got left in them?

Going to agree with the majority here. 5ish years, one album or so. Several tours. I saw Dio with Heaven and Hell last year when he was in his late sixties (I think), and he was great - but their music is slower and less intense. I would hate for Maiden to go on as a shadow of themselves. On...

Sat 15 wouldve been great if edited down

If you've been here for any length of time, you'll know that people have many varied opinions on Maiden's different records. Look no further than some thread around here with Jeffmetal and I disagreeing on AMOLAD - I love it; he hates it. But he gives detailed and compelling reasons for his...

Can't understand what you Mr. Jeffmetal DON'T see in AMOLAD!  We'll convert you one day blast it all...

Are you pleased with Maiden's direction?

I too hold AMOLAD as my person favorite.  But TFF is gaining fast.  After listening to TFF for a while, AMOLAD (as well as their other works) seem almost predictable in comparison... I respectfully disagree that TFF is just a bonus... I feel it's a crowning achievement, and one that's going to...

    The Talisman

This line puzzled me also.  I guess in the short term the eye is safe, but eventually you'll have to break through the rest of the storm.  Or maybe they're not being as literal, just calling the center of the storm the "eye"

I played the crap out of NWN years ago.  I had the gold edition, ended up getting it stolen in college.  Gotta find a copy of that thing somewhere.

 Wow.  All I have is two copies of NOTB and the Flight of Icarus single. Is Samson worth a listen?

    The Talisman

I do agree that the universal themes shine through regardless of the specifical historical context, but it just adds a little flare for me, a little depth, to know what exactly is being sung about.  Aces High is a great example - for me, yeah, the themes of a desperate struggle of the "few"...
