At or near the top. There are times I might rate Sabbath or Queen or early Metallica or even The Replacements higher, but over time it seems always to come back to Maiden. Certainly I have more of a nostalgic connection to Maiden than any other band.

I don’t like growls, but I’ll take ‘em over whatever it is that Serj Tankian is doing. One of the more annoying vocalists EVER. Also, note to self: listen to more Nuclear Assault.

But not Ghost, evidently! I tend to agree that the period from the mid-90s through around 2010 was, at least for new bands, a dark period. I think things have gotten a bit better in the last decade or so.

Is it me, or does the guitarist for Dimmu Borgir look like Death from the Bill & Ted movie? I reckon that may even be intentional. Anyway, I batted in an insurance run for Coroner. My other votes are meaningless but I agree with the majority on each.

I’m not surprised that Lord of the Flies is leading the tally, as it’s a commonly assigned book in schools. But I am very surprised that so few have read The Odyssey. Everyone should read it. It’s entertaining and still heavily influences modern culture and art. Case in point:
