RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

While I love Judas Be My Guide, I forgot how it opened, so I relistened to it. Honestly, it's got the perfect way the band likes to enter the stage: the instrumental that builds into something explosive where Bruce rushes out. It would be an amazing and completely unexpected way to open the show...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

Late last year, after the Future Past set of Funkos came out, they released two Mummy Eddies and (another) Pharaoh Eddie, presumably under the guise of the 40th Anniversary of Powerslave. Aces High Eddie was already announced before the end of 2024, and only went on sale officially this week as...

NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING - Your thoughts…

At the meeting where Blaze was fired, he asked if Bruce was coming back, and they said yes. Also according to Blaze, the decision had already been made that if it didn't work out with Bruce, they were moving on without Blaze regardless. So, there never would've been a third Blaze album (although...

NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING - Your thoughts…

I know Steve was getting more hands on with production during Fear of the Dark (he mentioned that a few times in interviews for TXF that he'd been sort of co-producing with Martin in recent years). Since they'd started using Barnyard on his property with No Prayer, it's likely he was decently...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

I don't know if it was meant to honor him so much as it raised enough of a question in Steve's mind for him to write it: why would a guy who's spent his life making people laugh off himself? It was about him, sure, but it never felt to me like a tribute. Not saying you're wrong, that's just been...

    Blaze Bayley gig reviews

This was my experience in a tiny club in Minnesota at probably Blaze's lowest point in 2011 with no band, hiring local guys to do a few shows. Maybe 20-25 people max, but he performed like he was in front of a stadium. It was after work and I was soooo back and forth about going or not. Even...

    The X Factor : 30 years on

I've always been curious about the remasters and just how much of an improvement they are production-wise, especially for albums like TXF, AMOLAD, or BOS where the production bothers me a bit, so this might give me a push to at least test it out with TXF. Problem is, I always listen to TXF with...

NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING - Your thoughts…

Not only that, but had Birch (who wasn't a yes-man like Kevin Shirley seems to be) kept on producing for the band, he would have likely trimmed a lot of the fat off of pretty much all of the post-FotD albums. This is, of course, a hypothetical to say all the post-FotD albums, since he died a...

How will Simon Dawson change the look and sound of Maiden?

I don't think they have any intention of hiring a "real" new drummer. Whether it's Simon until the end or someone else coming in, I think Nicko will be listed as the official drummer for the band until they retire for good. Everyone else will just be live fill-in drummers.

    Back in 1993

It's probably the most "pull no punches" biography I've read where I'm surprised Blaze allowed some of the stories to be published, because some of them--especially with the original Blaze lineup--are not flattering at all. Like the Halfords thing, that's the sort of stuff most bands would NOT...

    Ed Hunter

I was oddly the opposite. I was deeply bummed out that Blaze got sacked and Bruce was coming back. I was hopeful that the Blaze lineup could turn it around with the next album, but I also saw that Bruce had been stirring the reunion pot in interviews and his tactic to "out-Maiden Maiden" since...

Two songs of a similar formula: Rainmaker versus Stratego - Which one do you like better?

They're both great tracks, but I never find myself getting the urge to listen to Rainmaker. Very solid and unique-sounding song for their catalogue, IMO. Stratego I have singled out a few times, mainly for that little drum breakdown that builds into the last chorus, so I'd give that the edge.

    Ed Hunter

I remember voting for the setlist back in the day. I don't remember all the songs I picked, but definitely made sure to get a handful of Blaze songs I wanted to hear Bruce do. Clansman, Sign, Futureal, Man on the Edge for sure. It was cool to get the setlist compilation CD with the game, but...

Our recollections of it are both close to what happened: "They were trodden on in a bizarre dressing room tea-making accident in Greece: somebody decided to make a cup of tea after the gig, turned on the kettle, fused all the dressing room lights, somebody knocked into the table and knocked my...

    Nicko McBrain retires

I would be all over that, especially if there's more Listen with Nickos.

How will Simon Dawson change the look and sound of Maiden?

True. There's the Nicko interview from last year talking about how Steve more or less bent over backward to accommodate him--offering to drop songs he couldn't do anymore and telling Nicko to simplify his playing as he saw fit.

Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

I agree, it was nice to see Blaze get some love, especially from an unexpected place--Dave, who said he really liked him and thought him a good singer. From the quote, it sounded like when Dave was talking about the balance between home and touring, he was largely referring to how it used to be...

Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

Bruce about Remember Tomorrow: ''If ever Paul owned a song, it's that one. I can sing it, and have done. But I think we should leave it with Paul now.'' So, I've seen a good few people say Remember Tomorrow is almost a lock for RFYL (especially after Paul's passing), but if Bruce maintains this...

How will Simon Dawson change the look and sound of Maiden?

My guess agrees with the general consensus here: play as close to the recordings as possible. At present, he's just the live fill-in drummer, after all, not a member who has the clout to come in and start changing things up to suit his style. But, he's also Steve's buddy, so...I guess anything's...
