I never prepared a ritual to listen to new stuff. I listened to TBOS casually in the car, while driving. This time - I don't know why - I feel like I should do it. I live in a house with a fairly big backyard, that resembles a forest (yeah, I know, Brazil). Perhaps I'll grab some wine and go...
I know. My point is that if there's a vocal line that overlaps the guitar solo, well... it's not a "solo". I think the purpose of a solo is that the instrument becomes the protagonist.
I edited one of the alternative covers I found on the internet. I replaced the logo with the traditional one (with "legs" in the letters R, N, and M) and scaled it up. I also added some shadow on the floor to hide a bit of the terrible placement of Eddies' feet, which seems totally artificial in...
I would place BNW at the top and TFF at the bottom. The other three positions are hard to choose. I'm sure my pick would vary depending on the mood. Today, I tend to say AMOLAD>DOD>TBOS. But I wouldn't take it too seriously. In 2016, I would place TBOS up at the top alongside BNW.
We, as Maiden fans, are naturally related to the visual identity of their releases. I was not too convinced of an album title in a non-English language too. But the discomfort lasted a few minutes/hours. You can rapidly get used to it. After all, the most important thing is the music coming on...
"There’s also one or two songs which sound pretty different to our usual style"
Is TWOTW one of these? If not, what elements are you expecting? Perhaps another 100% acoustic song or a Japanese vibe.
1. Senjutsu (Smith/Harris) 8:20
2. Stratego (Gers/Harris) 4:59
3. The Writing On The Wall (Smith/Dickinson) 6:13
4. Lost In A Lost World (Harris) 9:31
5. Days Of Future Past (Smith/Dickinson) 4:03
6. The Time Machine (Gers/Harris) 7:09
7. Darkest Hour (Smith/Dickinson) 7:20
8. Death Of The Celts...
From the clues we got so far, the most plausible cover would be the Samurai Eddie in the foreground with the Belshazzar's tower in the background, maybe with some chaotic battle going on.
I feel that metalheads not rating it high is a very good indication that the song is actually awesome.
In the foruns I use to participate between 2007 and 2013, the more someone liked obscure subgenres of metal, the more they would say shit about AMOLAD and TFF. So we should not concern about them.
Indeed, the timing of the release of TBOS coincides with the outbreak of Spotify if I'm not mistaken. A lot of people listened TBOS for the first time via this platform (just a correction btw, it's not the second, it's the third: 1. Wickerman, 2. Blood Brothers, 3. SoL)
Most people rating it quite above Speed of Light, which is quite impressive given that SoL is the second most accessed song of the reunion Era in Spotify.
