It's amazing how divisive this song seems to be. I really wasn't expecting that. For me, this song is just straight up Maideny goodness :)

Great write up! I find myself agreeing with a lot of your points, actually. The shorter songs don't quite resonate with me as much as the longer tracks either.

The way I see it, the longer the album, the more Maiden we get per album. Here's hoping the next album is 4 hours long :) And you know, it's funny. Despite this being their longest album, I find it feels a lot less bloated then the last few albums.

Honestly, I feel this is the most underrated song from the album. Love the pace of this song, love the riffing, love the lyrics. Just adore this song.

It literally took me about 5 listens for EOTC to really click with me. That's the reason I didn't want to state an opinion on it too soon. Try imagining images of the story Bruce is telling while listening to it. That really helped me to "get it".

Dance of Death (the song) is also quite overrated IMHO.

Is it just me, or does this song have a real "Heaven and Hell" (The band, not the album) feel to it?

One of my favorites from the album. QFT. That's exactly how I feel about it. TBH, this is probably one of my favorite two or three songs on the album simply because of that reason. For me, it's a hell of a lot of fun to listen to. It pumps me the fuck up.

I think that's the point. It's not a typical song. It's more like a soundtrack to the story that Bruce is telling.

But the instrumental part is the best part of the song! (IMHO)

I wouldn't say that. A VERY vocal minority seems to hate it.

Another song that will most likely be a sleeper, which is a shame, because this song is just so energetic, pounding, and a joy to listen to.

One of the sleepers from the album. I think it's great. Shame it will most likely get lost in the shuffle.

All this being said, it would be kind of a travesty if they were to hang up their instruments now when they seem to be tapping into a higher plateau in regards to their songwriting.

Hard to say where I rank Empire..
