To me, TRATB feels like it was written to be played live (strong crowd participation, extended dueling solos) & to give Bruce an extended rest. I could be wrong. If that is true, I'm not mad about it at all. It works very well live as everyone says and the instrumental section is extremely cool...
After listening to video from the first three US dates and then comparing it to video from Mexico, sounds to me like they've sped up the tempos with the songs, especially Bruce's vocals, getting tighter and more consistent. I think the US dates were essentially dress rehearsals...which if so is...
The guitar techs are waiting at the drapes with guitars for each of the musicians while the tape plays. Probably the reason why the guitar isn't played played live. Speaking of which, Bruce singing the intro instead of it being played from the album was a stroke of genius. Totally sets the tone...
Black Bart, yes the "Necropolis" spoken bit at the end of IESF allows for a quick guitar changeover. That song is in the lower key of D, then they go back to standard tuning for SOL.
I don't think they'll do a farewell tour. I think they're at the stage where they'll go on for as long as it's profitable and physically possible for them to do it. They appear to still have a lot of gas left in the tank both creatively & physically and with the success of this album & tour...
For what it's worth, I don't think that "EOTC" would go down well live nearly as well as it seems like it would. Myself, I'd prefer if they traded "TOAC" for "The Great Unknown," which I thought they'd play based on Adrian stating that he dreaded performing it live because of the tuning.
I find it funny how so many people complain about the setlists when they either have never seen Maiden live before or only once or twice.
"Why don't they play "Empire..." instead of "FOTD" again? This will be my first Maiden show!!!"
Regarding setlists, keep in mind that Maiden have a lot of people to satisfy. First and foremost they have to please themselves. It has to be fun for them, otherwise playing would become a chore instead of a joy. On album tours they are promoting new product, so they have to learn & incorporate...
Davey's playing that Les Paul a lot during the show.
Guys who were there last night; seemed to me to be the most restrained I've ever seen Janick perform...did you notice that too?
And yes I agree...The Raven Age are pretty much shite.
Forgot to tell you guys...you know by now that Adrian plays slide during his solo on "Death Or Glory" (great live song, btw). Well, I was watching him...after he plays the slide lick and drops it, it looked like his guitar tech Sean pulled it offstage via an attached string. Can anyone verify this?
To me, they are playing an AMAZING setlist on this tour. I can't find anything to complain about and there's much to cheer & celebrate. We've got six brand-new album cuts, a classic oldie in COTD, another classic in Powerslave, and their usual oeuvre still played with passion and fire. The...
Quick report: they're on "TRATB" and Bruce sounds FANTASTIC thus far. Really amazing. The crowd doing the chorus to "TRATB" in unison gave tingles. Song works much better live than I thought it would.
Martin Walker is doing FOH sound for Maiden this tour. Official time they hit is 8:55pm. Also long-time soundman for Judas Priest and works with Whitesnake & Slash as well. He's been with Maiden since 2012.
