GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I don’t like growls, but I’ll take ‘em over whatever it is that Serj Tankian is doing. One of the more annoying vocalists EVER. Also, note to self: listen to more Nuclear Assault.

The Strokes - The New Abnormal. One of my favorite albums of the year so far.

But not Ghost, evidently! I tend to agree that the period from the mid-90s through around 2010 was, at least for new bands, a dark period. I think things have gotten a bit better in the last decade or so.

In honor of Danzig I will share with you one of my favorite "music news" pieces ever: https://consequenceofsound.net/2017/08/take-a-look-inside-danzigs-shitty-house-currently-on-the-market-for-1-2-million/

“No Remorse” I presume? That thing is awesome. It would’ve gone far.

I like the recent 180-gram vinyl reissues of Brave New World and Dance of Death, and I think they sound better and more dynamic than the original CDs, which were pretty badly compressed. Same with Rock In Rio. As for AMOLAD through Book of Souls, I’ve only really spent time with the original...

I still don’t know how Possessed beat Van Halen last round. It’s garbage. I know Seven Churches was a pioneering album for a large metal subgenre, but I don’t like that subgenre very much. Even so, Death is better than BFMV. Grand Magus is cool and there are better Megadeth albums that...

Power Trip kicks ass. This was my #2 metal album of the past decade: https://forum.maidenfans.com/threads/best-albums-of-the-decade-2010-2019.71426/post-841176

Is it me, or does the guitarist for Dimmu Borgir look like Death from the Bill & Ted movie? I reckon that may even be intentional. Anyway, I batted in an insurance run for Coroner. My other votes are meaningless but I agree with the majority on each.

Who’s Read what of Iron Maiden’s literary source material?

I’m not surprised that Lord of the Flies is leading the tally, as it’s a commonly assigned book in schools. But I am very surprised that so few have read The Odyssey. Everyone should read it. It’s entertaining and still heavily influences modern culture and art. Case in point:

I clearly missed something with all the Pink Floyd chatter. Where did that come from? They’re...not...possibly...in this game? Right?? to the voting: Gamma Ray over Pretty Maids. Don’t love Helloween, but the Gamma Ray track I liked better. Pretty Maids sounds like Rainbow when they tried...

Zep -- easy choice, that album is both far more enjoyable and far more important. Sabbath -- I'm surprised to see this album on the list, perhaps @Forostar nominated it to just be different. It's no better than Sabbath's 12th-best record, but it's still better than Death Angel. Tony Martin's...

Believe it or not, they actually upgraded their drummer on the last two albums. IMO, o' course.
