Iron Maiden in the strangest places

I walked past someone painting their fence while I was at work today and I'm 99% sure they were listening to Live After Death. I caught the end of one song and the start of the next, I could definitely hear eighties Bruce and crowd noise. The first song may have been The Trooper, the next song...

Angry Metal Guy reviews Senjutsu...4 years later

I remember seeing videos of Senjutsu opening the Legacy of the Beast shows and finding it very odd to see the guys just kinda wander out onto the stage instead of in a big explosion of energy, it was also kinda disheartening to see that the band were finally showing their age. Then, The Future...

Explain a Maiden song as poorly as possible

It's like, really long, and it's got this real quiet intro, then it gets loud, then he says the same words a few times, then the singing stops for a bit, then it comes back then it gets real quiet again.

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2025 Tour Thread *SPOILERS INSIDE*

He's British, baby, those are the real deal :D (I'm British too don't @ me) Related note, a friend of mine is a singer and she said her singing voice changed quite noticeably when she had her teeth straightened, she didn't like the way it sounded so won't have them done again.

Iron Maiden in the strangest places

You sure? Apparently it's ninth and there's been some discussion as to why that might be. To a Maiden fan, no, Wasting Love, Be Quick or Be Dead, Bring Your Daughter, or any other single isn't a deep cut. In the context of what I'm talking about, British tea-time game shows and the type of...

Interesting chords/key/musical ideas in maiden songs

The Parchment's another odd one that borrows notes from the Phrygian and Phrygian Major scales, using the G and G# respectively.

Iron Maiden in the strangest places

To the general non-metal listening public anything that's not Run to the Hills or Number of the Beast is a deep cut. I think most people would struggle to name Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter and it was a Number 1 hit..

Iron Maiden in the strangest places

I remember hearing Maiden questions on the radio Popmaster but it was never anything as deep as TAATG or Be Quick. The quiz show Pointless has had a round on Maiden songs before too, it was a fill-in-the-blanks question with five Maiden song titles, all the well-known singles though.

Interesting chords/key/musical ideas in maiden songs

Powerslave is a bit of an odd one. The main riff mostly fits A Phrygian using A, C and Bb power chords for the galloping part but the last phrase uses a C# instead of C.

Fellow (even former) redheads have gotta stand together  I still listen to Riot! a lot, it's killer, but I haven't really loved anything they've put out since "Monster". I suppose the pop-punk sound couldn't last forever.

Eh, it's doubtful but not entirely implausible, quite a few modern pop artists like some metal.

Here's a random something, Paramore's Hayley Williams performing in shorts with (half of) the Megadeth logo on them. Is she a secret Megadeth fan or is it some fashion brand that used the logo 'cause it looks cool? Probably the latter.

What are the most overrrated albums in rock history?

There is a natural evolution from Turbo -> Ram it Down -> Painkiller. Ram it Down has some of the commercial sounds and sillier lyrics of Turbo (makes sense given they were intended to be a double-album) but is much heavier, and Painkiller is just expanding on that evolution. The intensity is...

Interesting chords/key/musical ideas in maiden songs

A couple of cool moments in a mostly pretty forgettable song: Dave using the Devil's Interval in The Man of Sorrows, going from C down to F# in the verses. Then the mellow outro, though I don't know what key it's in or if it uses any interesting chords. I also really like the "ascending" riff...

    Ozzy Osbourne (1948-2025)

Two things have struck me in the past couple of days, one good, one slightly less good: 1) Lots of people from all different backgrounds and areas (podcasters, actors, etc) have been affected by Ozzy's death, a fair few of them have very little interest in metal or Ozzy's music (more on that in...

    NOW PLAYING

My favourite of all Ozzy's work. As if "Mama I'm Coming Home" didn't already hit hard enough, I remembered it was co-written by another legend who is no longer with us - Lemmy.

    Black Sabbath

The dude from Ghost is Swedish, he's the only other non-Yank I can think of. Though I fully expect Priest would've been there if they weren't touring.

    Janick's role in post-reunion Maiden

You can't blame people for being tetchy and irritable about this subject. It rears its ugly head every now and then just to recycle the same talking points, there's nothing new to say about it from either side and, as you will know, the discussion can become needlessly disrespectful and...

    Janick's role in post-reunion Maiden

The three-part harmony after the solo sounds just fine to me without a rhythm track under it.

    Janick's role in post-reunion Maiden

Great, we're having the "why is Janick still in Maiden" discussion for the billionth time in thirty-plus years. A band known for their harmony lines chooses to add a third harmony line live. Wild.
