"The Book of Souls" - Official pre-release thread (CONTAINS ALBUM SPOILERS)

I'm freaking the fuck out right now. I love the name, the theme (voodoo, african or south american tribe). I love the cover and unlike some on here, I love it's simplicity. I do see how some could find the cover "offensive" or "racist" in our hyper-sensitive society, with the likely african...

Studio Album #16 - Rumours and Speculation (New Info 27.02.15)

So i'm really starting to irrationally worry that this album may not see the year 2015. Lamb of God has a new record coming out on July 24th and Slayer has one on September 11th. It seems like both bands have been promoting their records for well more than six months prior to release. My...

Maiden Songs That Are Growing On You

Not a specific song, but the entire album of The X Factor. Upon first listen, I guess the absence of bruce just hits you like a ton of bricks. Blaze is clearly not Bruce. My first listen through the entire X factor album and I just felt very disappointed. Not that I thought the songs were bad...

WHY did they strip-down the sound for No Prayer??

No I am loving Wasting Love. I've been humming it all day. One of the better songs on FotD.

WHY did they strip-down the sound for No Prayer??

I'm now starting to listen to FotD and tracks like wasting love definitely gave me a Guns n' Roses vibe. Not that that's a bad thing. It's a different sound, but I don't mind it so far. It's a noticeable improvement over NPftD.
  6. 22 The Avenue

    Mother Russia

This "epic" song would be the worst one thus far on what is probably the worst album thus far. It's okay, but not even on an equal level with my least favorite epic so far, To Tame a Land. It does have a series of great solos from Murray and Janick that are it's best quality. 8/10
  7. 22 The Avenue

Bring Your Daughter… …To the Slaughter

Wow, this album is bordering on a dumpster fire at this point. The best part though is that it's still better than most bands' best. Hey, the previous version of this song was on the Nightmare on Elm Street 5 soundtrack. It has that going for it. Unlike the Assassin and Hooks in you, at least...

    Hooks In You

5/10 It's just as bad as The Assassin. Bad performance by Bruce. Corny overall. It will likely be among some of the worst IM songs when I'm through the discography.
  9. 22 The Avenue

    Run Silent Run Deep

This is one of Bruce's better vocal efforts on this album and the chorus isn't too bad. The guitar solos are some of the better ones too. It's probably the lone "highlight" after the first three songs of NPftD. 8/10
  10. 22 The Avenue

    The Assassin

Not one of Bruce's better songs thus far in the discography. It's not that he botched it from an effort standpoint. It's just so incredibly corny. The back up vocals make it laughable too. I've listened to this song over and over and it never gets better. 5/10 for a mediocre song.
  11. 22 The Avenue

    Fates Warning

I can tell that this song was trying so hard to be more grand than it ultimately ended up being. I can neither like it nor dislike it. It's so-so. 7/10
  12. 22 The Avenue

    Public Enema Number One

The first three songs of this album were deceiving. They lead us to believe that this album wasn't going to be too bad. Well NPftD doesn't really ever pick back up from here. Murray's great guitar solo is the only thing in this song that isn't relatively forgettable. 7/10
  13. 22 The Avenue

    No Prayer For the Dying

This is probably the album's best song and thank goodness it's the title track that holds that trophy. great guitar work throughout. 9/10
  14. 22 The Avenue

    Holy Smoke

This song is very reminiscent of a potential AC/DC track. The style is very similar. I HATED this song as first. I was literally laughing. It's grown on me and now I think it's one of the better songs on this album. It's a fun, silly song that I'd love to hear live. 8/10 I also read this is the...
  15. 22 The Avenue

    Tailgunner

This song is very reminiscent of Aces High, but obviously not as good. The aviation and airplane theme. The guitar solos are the best quality of this song. On most albums, this would be filler. It's one of the better songs on this very poor album. Welcome Janick! Your first solo is a good one. 8/10
  16. 22 The Avenue

    Only the Good Die Young

This is an odd song to end an album on. It just doesn't feel like the typical IM album closer thus far. It feels like it belongs in the middle of the album. Nonetheless, it is a good song overall. Middle of the pack on this album. 9/10
  17. 22 The Avenue

    The Clairvoyant

A great song, but the chorus is a bit awkward like others have stated. I can't agree that this song is as good as many make it out to be. 9/10
  18. 22 The Avenue

    The Prophecy

I really like this song. More excellent guitar work and Bruce's singing is great. The intro and outro are also superb. One day I really stopped to listen to the calm that the outro brings and it was a beautiful thing. What an underrated song. 10/10
  19. 22 The Avenue

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

10/10 Finally a epic song that lives up to HBTN and RotAM potential. The best one since. The guitar solos in this song are so epic that my mind figuratively explodes every single time.
  20. 22 The Avenue

    The Evil That Men Do

The first time I heard this song , I said, I've heard this one before and immediately sang along. Okay, I obviously had heard it but didn't realize it was IM. It is one of the best on the album. So damn catchy and so good. 10/10
