i'd be all for a Hell On Earth truncated beginning/end to get it to a reasonable 8 minute mark or whatever. it's a great song when it's actually a song and not noodling lol. but, yeah, so many great songs they never play that could get in there so i'm personally really leery of any song over 7...
no way. almost no studio album is worthy of an entire set. operation mindcrime and master of puppets are very rare exceptions. i've listened to 60% of album so far and i'm generally liking it but there's no way i wanna here a 10 minute anything live. it's just too long.
10-12 minutes songs are almost always bloated. by definition. i'm not sure why the lads still feel the need (looking at you, Steve) to "establish" mood - just get on with it!!!
and then there's the historical gaff in '89 with Grammy going to Jethro Tull over 'tallica's "One" !!! they lost any and all credibility they may have had that day...none since.
i'm just venting a bit here but i honestly don't understand how anyone can like El Dorado (and Wildest Dreams for that matter) ??? it's just dissonant, a-tonal, noisy, a-melodic...what am i missing??? rhetorical questions here lol. i'd take Weekend Warrior over those two 10 times out of 10 :shred:
I honestly visit TFF less than just about any other Maiden album except for maybe the debut. I really wanted to like the album and played it a lot back in 2010/11 but it just never caught on. Coming Home is really solid and reminded me how I wish Maiden did more "power pop" songs like this...
all that's true but the reality is that Steve listened to the rough mixes in the studio and said, "hey, that sounds good!" and like george lucas with star wars prequels, nobody had the balls to say, "no not really...it's flat as hell...let's have a mastering engineer take a look". which is why...
Okay let me clarify - Rick Rubin during his South of Heaven and Danzig 4 era work. Those albums have a really nice punchy yet analogy sound to them while still be well-delineated and not muddied (like Seasons In The Abyss say). Yes, he is deaf (lol) and there is clipping on those albums but...
AMOLAD is definitely my 2nd or 3rd fave reunion album. It's a good mix but Steve's decision not to do a proper mastering on the album holds it back (to me). The levels just aren't right. It sounds flat. But the songs pretty much kick ass all around with really only The Legacy and Maybe...
Generally agree but this album grows on you. Yes, Paschendale and Rainmaker are light years ahead of the pack bc they are well-edited and pack a punch, one at a long length (but no fat) and one just a short ridiculously catchy "pop" song. All the other songs have issues with content or editing...
Totally agree on the production on BNW being the best they ever did and probably ever will. Right before the ubiquity of ProTools and their comeback success was not ensured so they and Kevin *really* put the effort it and it shows (sounds?). Your term "lush" definitely applies. It just feels...
BNW is, hands down, my all-time favorite Maiden album!!! Song-for-song this is just an incredibly strong piece of work. I can't think of a song here that I don't like much...maybe The Nomad is my least favorite...but it has its moments even. The title track is just fantastic and probably my...
like a lot of folks here i've "rediscovered" Blaze-era Maiden albums and can now appreciate now what i wasn't able to before. but let's not get too carried away with "not Blaze's fault". the guy is likeable but he's nowhere near qualified to stand in Bruce's shoes, never has been never will...
he's one of the most knowledgeable guys out there but he really is kind of a prick and has very suspect taste but you know what they say about taste. the nail in coffin? he actually likes St. Anger !! you never (i mean, NEVER) meet anyone who has anything good to say about that pots and pans...
Not lately but he's given quite a few 0's to Maiden in the past and he even still stands by a 6 rating for SSOASS. I love the guys writing but he can be a total idiot. He still maintains a 0 for The Leps Hysteria ! I mean, you may not like it but c'mon it's a masterpiece in a way. Definitely...
the 5.0 is probably legendarily unfair to Maiden martin popoff lol. so i throw the 5.0 as an Anti-Maiden type (they are out there) and what's left is, by the look of it, a really strong Maiden album coming out way. i'm excited. get excited.
i personally don't think you can make any judgements on mix/production quality until you get at least a 320kbps rip from production source file. that said, i think the YT feed from band site sounds significantly better than WOTW. but THAT said, YT audio feeds generally suck and notoriously...
definitely not going to compare to Aces as that intro riff is one of their top 5 all-time...the whole song is basically a masterpiece...but i REALLY like this new track after just one listen....that hasn't happened for me since Rainmaker and Different World for a Maiden album. between WOTW and...
okay this is a pretty killer track after only one listen! the stream from official site is not great but i can already tell that (thank God) Bruce's vocals are back to front and center just like on BNW...forward in the mix is my preference so this is a good sign. catchy as hell verses and...
it's really hard to conclude that Hallowed is indeed not only THE track on NOTB but quite possibly of the whole cannon. everybody borrows. even Stones and Beatles! so, yeah, it's the cornerstone of the whole damn house but, agreed, RTTH and Children are INCREDIBLE tracks in their own right...
