    Wildest Dreams

Poor for an opener this. Very bland and not even a catchy chorus to redeem it. I do actually really like the short bridge after the solo though. 6

The Thin Line Between Love and Hate

Decent song for the first half but spectacular in the second half. Bruce's vocal is astonishing, especially during the soft part. Close to greatness this one but it needed a change of direction and momentum above the 2 part song that it effectively is. 8

    Out of the Silent Planet

Really struggled to rate this one. It's very close to a great song but the poppy and repetitive chorus just takes the fun out of it for me after a few listens. The build to that chorus is brilliant though and it is a nice song up to about the 3/4 point. 7

    The Nomad

The chorus part where it is sung with an eastern music inflection is interesting but not that enjoyable. Otherwise it's ok. Great heavy riffs in the verses and the main chorus is better. The instrumental is superb but we all now know the history of it. 7

    The Fallen Angel

Comfortably the worst track on the album I think. The "you and only god will know" bit is the only bit of the album I genuinely dislike. The guitars and heaviness are cool though. 6

    Dream of Mirrors

Didn't like this at first and I still dislike the intro. But the rest of it has really grown on me. The bridge section is absolutely superb with a great melody and choppy riffs. The chorus is emphatic too with a really intriguing lyric. And the sped up chorus is a nice idea too. 8

    The Mercenary

The chorus just about elevates this above filler material. Decent melodic rocker. 7

    Blood Brothers

One of their most powerful tracks lyrically and musically. Incredible tension throughout which builds to each chorus, especially the final chorus. The guitar and keyboard melodies are truly stunning and Jan is immense again. The bit where the solo suddenly picks up pace and volume into the final...

    Brave New World

Great song. Brilliant lyrics and vocals. Janick's solo is immense. And the chorus melody is one of their greatest. The little guitar licks during the chorus are great too. 9

    Ghost of the Navigator

Great atmosphere in this song and I like the thematic lyrics. The whole band is on fire throughout. There's something about the choppy transitions between the different sections that I'm not keen on but it is a cool song and another one that is enhanced by listening to RiR. 8

    The Wicker Man

What a spectacular way to return to business. Bruce is brilliant on this but Adrian's influence is probably even more important. Amazing riffing all the way through and the chorus is so emphatic. I think the RiR version has probably elevated it in my eyes mind you. 9

    Como Estais Amigos

I'm so grateful for this fantastic song. I've given Blaze so much grief that I feel bad sometimes. There's so much power in this song and the chorus is genuinely beautiful. Lyrics are simple but effective and moving. For the first time in my opinion, this actually feels like a Blaze song and it...

Don't Look to the Eyes of a Stranger

Seems almost a cliché to say it but the repetition is awful. Beyond that it's almost embarrassing because it's not even a good melody which is repeated (see The Apparition). Plodding instrumental and bad production too. 4

    The Educated Fool

The album starts to become a chore here I think. This song has some nice heavy riffs in place but it all feels so laboured. And the chorus is a dirge despite the odd vocal harmonies. There's a decent instrumental and Jan pulls out a very good solo. But then...back to the chorus. Ugh 5

    When Two Worlds Collide

Too many times in the Blaze era the song is let down by a flat chorus. This ought to be the bit of the song that elevates and hooks. This is another prime example of a promising song that just becomes uninteresting. Also another one off the album that suffers with unimaginative drumming. Perhaps...

    The Clansman

Outstanding song with one of the best build up and pay off sections they've ever done. Beautiful clean intro and amazingly melodic work from Jan throughout . Anthemic choruses. Nice lyrical theme too. I don't want to keep getting at Blaze but he is a bit flat on the "We can't let them take...

    Lightning Strikes Twice

A bit like many songs on the previous XFactor, good intro, promising bridge then horribly amateurish chorus and repetitive backing riff. 5

    The Angel and the Gambler

Terrible intro in an era of actually good intros. Pedestrian tempo, lacklustre vocals and the lame chord progression and structure. The chorus is actually ok and this might have saved the song were it not for the fact it is ridiculously long for what it is. 5
