I would really like to know from other guitarists on this board that took the time to study and learn all the H solos (2 mins to midnight, Aces high, wicker man, wasted years, paschendale, different world etc) whether they feel the same way.

I felt the solos worked within the song but lacked structure. E.g with the Wicker Man solo there is a clear point A to point B to point C...opening melodic bit followed by a bluesy bit followed by a final flourish of fast notes. When you listen to that you instantly know this was not improvised...

I actually like the less obvious route Maiden took in naming the track. It differentiates them from 100s of other powermetal bands. I am also glad there is no Babylon in the album title for the same reason

Stratego for me is in the top 3 favorite short tracks after Wicker man and Rainmaker. I think the short rockers are important because it gives the album a burst of energy and pace to break the monotony of the lumbering epics. This song seems to be unlike anything in the maiden catalogue and yet strong enough for maiden to consider it as an album opener and a title track. Super curious about it.

Yeah Talisman definitely qualifies. The gallop feels more epic because of the steady build up to the chorus. I must say I am not a fan of making Bruce sing in such high registers. He sounds incredible in lower registers as evident with Stratego. Give the man a break... Steve lol.

To me Bruce sounds amazing on every album. His performance on the "The Book of Souls" title track was also insanely good.

They must have gone with the strongest songs regardless of length. Better to have 2/2 amazing short rockers than 2/4. Reviews suggest epics are going to be equally amazing, especially Hell on Earth, Death of the Celts and The Time machine.
