Where does Iron Maiden stand in your top 10 bands of all time?

I used to listen to "Die With Your Boots On" after reading chapters in The Fountainhead and We The Living. Good soundtrack to Rand's better works.

    Your Maiden blasphemy

"manufactured" was my take on it too (first several listens) but Bruce imbues it with so much ... BRUCE ... that it just works for some reason.

    Deftones

not a fan of this band *until* Koi No Yokan - several songs on KNY connected with me, and I like what I've hard from Gore so far. Don't know why I can't connect with the earlier material, perhaps the melodies just don't work for my ears.

    Your Maiden blasphemy

Death or Glory is surprisingly good for a late-error Maiden non-epic rocker (beats the pants off of any rocker on The Final Frontier) but it doesn't quiet reach the dizzying heights of Aces High. Unpopular Maiden Opinion? For The Greater Good of God is one of the weakest tracks (and has aged...

    Starblind

fantastic track that has wonderful ebb and flow and a great dynamic throughout - some of my favorite melodic yet rhythmic H riffing patterns. for any Rainbow heads here, "Starblind" works great when played immediately after Rainbow's "Stargazer" and immediately before "A Light in the Black"...

    Your Maiden blasphemy

more "The eyes of the Nile are opening you'll see" a friend friends and I did a drunken karaoke version of Revelations once, singing "The thighs of the Nile are opening you'll see" instead, hehe.

The Book of Souls: individual album judgement by yours truly

I have little (if any) emotional attachment to the Whoa-Oh's in The Red and The Black - but they're fun from a rhythmic standpoint - and they lead up well to the Bruce's impassioned "I need somebody to save me" post-chorus

The Book of Souls: individual album judgement by yours truly

looks as if Empire of the Clouds didn't hook a lot of people in after repeat listens - took me a good 5-6 listens, but it finally clicked with me on about listen #7 whilst on a 2 hour drive (many Maiden songs click for me while driving - there's always been a certain "scenic" quality to their...

    Adrian Smith

SIASL would fit into the same spot that Coming Home and The Great Unknown have been placed in recent tours.

    Your Maiden blasphemy

Revelations is an outstanding composition, but I find myself nearly laughing out loud at some of the lyrics.
  12. Pibroch_Whistler

    Your Maiden blasphemy

au contraire - SIASL is nobody else's favorite Maiden song (rarely in anyone's top 10) and fans seem to prefer H over Dave by nearly a 3-1 margin Thus, there's a degree of blasphemy in both statements. not to mention that which is perhaps the greatest blasphemy I can imagine ... I count Piece...

    Your Maiden blasphemy

Stranger in a Strange Land is my all-time favorite Iron Maiden song .... ... but Dave Murray is my favorite guitarist in Iron Maiden

    Your Maiden blasphemy

I take this back -- BNW hit all the right spots on a road trip a week or so ago.

The Final Frontier: individual album judgement by yours truly

I like how the chorus of "Coming Home" begins with Bruce's low voice and then kicks into high gear - always a pleasant (an unexpected) surprise

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

YMMV - old thrasher like me can't make out any identifiable riffs, and the vocals don't work for my aging ears either.

    Your Maiden blasphemy

BNW is best vocally DoD best guitar work AMOLAD best unifying concept The Final Frontier - still hasn't made its way into the "great" top-tier Maiden albums for me yet The Book of Souls has the best songwriting
  19. Pibroch_Whistler

    Your Maiden blasphemy

AMOLAD maybe - gushing praise at the time of its release. It's a good album, but those who give it gushing praise are rarely (if ever) able to describe why it's more worthy of praise than the other reunion era albums.

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

Speaking of Corey Taylor, is there any particular reason (other than brand marketing) that Slipknot's "Solway Firth" always plays immediately after nearly every Iron Maiden video on YouTube?
