Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

Yes I got a lot of stick. It is the only time I felt alienated from the 'maiden are gods and can do no wrong' fan mentality. Which I bought into uncritically when I was younger, so it was strange be on the other side of that. The thing that clearly went wrong for Nicko at that 2011 drum clinic...

Simon Dawson is the new drummer

I didn't know that, but having checked Rod's personal companies house listing I found the following. He still is in charge of Phantom and Sanctuary. But in 2023-24 Rod also resigned from no less than 23 companies. Many Maiden related, the main ones of course being Iron Maiden Holdings and others...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

Yes and early 2010s was the last moment smartphones weren't everywhere yet. Some people had them, many still had ordinary phones (like Bruce himself!). Smartphones were also nowhere near as sophisticated as they are now. Funny to recall Steve Jobs only launched the iphone in 2007. Instagram...

Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

I loved the Listen With Nicko series when I was 13 or 14, and I still remember them very fondly. However, little know fact: I had to complain loudly on the official Maiden Forum about the racialised aspects of Nicko's humour after a drum show he delivered in Shepherds Bush sometime around 2010...

Simon Dawson is the new drummer

I think this is quite important, January 1999 - December 2024, 26 years! We discussed Tipton, and the other analogy Maiden will want to avoid is AC/DC. Where members are dropping like flies (RIP Malcolm) but they keep it going using the Angus - Brian double act. If Nicko remains a band...

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

It is strange isn't it, I also felt this way about Maiden England. It was partly the pacing and the dilution of the 7th Son theme in how the setlist progressed. It felt more like a generic greatest hits tour than it should have done. Aces High definitely did not belong in that set.

Iron Maiden's management: What went wrong?

That's a fair observation, agreed, but there is one easy answer here for the shorter tours at least: Exhaustion. Steve himself complained out loud that he was knackered after the BNW tour (bearing in mind he had gone from 1998, 1999, 2000, to Rock in Rio at the start of 2001 nearly nonstop in...

The song will be titled... 'IRON LION'... leading to a lawsuit from Bob Marley's estate. ('British Maiden' was dropped for being too provocative)

Iron Maiden's management: What went wrong?

I remember the Black Sabbath revival around 1997, but they had three things going for them that Maiden didn't at that time 1) Ozzy just came back to Sabbath and was becoming a reality / chat show star 2) the youthful 90s bands were wanking themselves silly with Sabbath worship (from...

Iron Maiden's management: What went wrong?

??? Total conterfactual nonsense. I'm sorry, but do you remember the 90s? There is nothing anybody could have done with the Maiden brand, even with Bruce still in it, to push Maiden commercially in the USA and the UK for sure by 1995ish. Niche gains in other markets maybe, but in their home...

Iron Maiden's management: What went wrong?

What you are asking of Rod was to take on Steve in 1992. To lobby Steve on Bruce's behalf, voicing Bruce's complaints. Are you serious? You are correct to point out Rod didn't impose himself on the situation and deferred to Steve in 1992/3. But you ignore the fact that Rod's deference to...

Iron Maiden stage sets over the years

Andy Taylor said in an FC magazine interview about a decade ago that the band's fortunes really changed after around 2005. He wasn't very specific but it sounded like he meant their revenues and overall touring income, and their USA popularity.. It certainly seems like from the 2008 and 2010...

    What’s Steve thinking here?

I agree about the Maiden England setlist, and yes, it wasn't too bad at all.

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

Thing to recall about 'younger fans' is that they attracted loads in the 2000s.... Who are now in their 40s!!! So again another middle aged layer of the fanbase, but there was a great amount of fan recruitment about 20 or so years ago, so not just the 80s fans who are now in the 50s/60s.

    Should Maiden sell the catalog?

You do all realise that until very recently, one of the major figures in back catalogue acquisition used to work for Maiden? Merck Mercuriadis learned the ropes from Rod and assistant-managed Maiden until the 90s and into the Sanctuary company. He is even referenced by Bruce on the b side...

    50th Anniversary Documentary Announcement

Didn't know that. Suppose to head off more “serial litigant” Barry Mackay action?

Maiden songs everybody seems to like but you dislike?

I give Empire of the Clouds a pass because of Bruce's illness and I respect it, but I personally don't like it very much. Some fans liked Death or Glory, I'm not keen on it. Can I Play With Madness, I've never loved it. Sanctuary, I think its quite an un-Maiden sounding song, at least how...

    50th Anniversary Documentary Announcement

As far as I know, the production team has done an excellent job on this forthcoming documentary. They are well credentialed and have produced some good non maiden content that (as far as I know) has done well to get onto major streaming platforms. This is the reality today BTW, major...

    Cart and Horses

Well I was born not far from the Cart & Horses but that was a while back and now I'm a tourist there... I visited the pub for the first time the day of the 02 shows in 2023; it was busy around lunchtime but not terrible. Really enjoyed being there. I later went back and saw British Lion play...
