I'd say he sounds better now than in the early nineties, where it sounded like he was gasping for breath on RTTH and just couldn't be arsed with the performance.

Both the slight lisp and the slurred annunciation I'm afraid are simply facets of his ageing voice. Considering he went through the cancer treatment years ago, and it's only become prominently audible over the last couple of years at the most. But yeah, he always sounds a bit drunk these days...
