    New single: Stratego

YES! I only listened once but I love it. The flat five in the first riff sounds awesome, and generally this song is full of things that Maiden don't usually do. Nicko killed it here, and Bruce sounds great as well. The only downside, if you can call it that, is that Janick went with a standard...

Your favorite 10 seconds of Maiden?

How about the part before the solos in SSOASS? That part is killer, but it also might be a tease because I want to listen to the rest of the solo section. Tough choice.

The Man Who Would Be King

The solo is incredibly unique in Maiden's catalog. I like the song, the lyrics not so much. They feel a bit awkward.

Nights of the Dead, Legacy of the Beast: Live in Mexico City (new live album)

Yeah, it's a six string drop A, which I assume makes the rest of the guitar in D standard (like Periphery and Mastodon often do) but it might just be E standard with a low A. I have no idea.

Nights of the Dead, Legacy of the Beast: Live in Mexico City (new live album)

I don't know about half, but I'm too lazy to check. No Maiden tracks are in D standard, they're all in E (other than Adrian on drop D in some newer songs). What I assume you meant was that some Maiden songs are in the key of D, which is of course true. It depends on the arrangement. Down tuning...

    NOW PLAYING

Have you guys heard the new Ross Jennings single? He is the singer from Haken: I love that chord progression in the chorus. G, A, C#m, C. Such a cool progression, I'm trying to figure out how it makes sense. I can see the A chord going to E, and then the C#m is the relative minor.

Nights of the Dead, Legacy of the Beast: Live in Mexico City (new live album)

Thanks. I think he sounds marginally better. Maybe more energetic? But the mix is obviously not there, being a cam capture, so it's hard to know for sure. In any case, from only a couple of songs I can tell I'd rather have this show than the Mexico one.

    Abandoned Maiden songs

EDIT: I entirely misunderstood the point of this thread. I don't skip any Maiden tracks, and almost all of the times I listen to a specific album from start to finish. The closest I'd get is Angel and the Gambler, but if I'm in a mood for VXI, it's fine.

What are your plans for your first Senjutsu "listening party"?

Just what I did for TFF and TBOS: Sit in front of my computer and play it on my studio monitors. Preferably with the lyrics, but I don't know if I'll wait until my physical album arrives. Hopefully they'll be online a few hours after release. It'll be hard staying focused for 80 minutes, but...

Nights of the Dead, Legacy of the Beast: Live in Mexico City (new live album)

Fantastic, thank you. I rescind my statement about Steve and direct my criticism at Bruce. Also a good point (and a really good and heavy song). Obviously, the vocal range of a song depends on the arrangement and not solely on the key, but the fact remains that if Bruce sang old songs like Aces...

Nights of the Dead, Legacy of the Beast: Live in Mexico City (new live album)

Listening to LOTF from DOTR. Sounds really cool, but it's from 18 years ago, and also they just modulated it to E from F#. It's still too high for current Bruce, IMO. As for Mother of Mercy, you're right. And he sounds strained in the chorus, even in the Studio recording.

Nights of the Dead, Legacy of the Beast: Live in Mexico City (new live album)

If that's the case, Bruce is wrong too. He needs to understand that he is freaking 61 years old. He is still a fantastic singer, but he needs to sing in an appropriate key. If someone knows about an interview or something where someone in the band directly refers to tuning down, I'd love to...

Nights of the Dead, Legacy of the Beast: Live in Mexico City (new live album)

I'm listening to it now. Man, poor Bruce. I heard the reason they don't tune down is because Steve refuses to, and if that's the case then he is making the wrong decision. Bruce is straining very hard and does not sound good. It's not his fault, he's over 60 and after throat cancer. All things...

    Senjutsu - 3rd September 2021

Man, I have not been here for a WHILE. Logged in to say I'm excited! I'll be very positive, even though I'm worried about the 82 minute length and the final 3 songs being 10+ minute Harris tracks. I really do love the current era of Maiden, since 2000, but you can't argue that sometimes they...

    The Angel and the Gambler

Honestly, not as bad as I remembered. The solos are nice. I don't remember what's missing in the single version, but I guess it's for the best.

    Alternate cut

Just as a mental exercise, I've been thinking about trying to make an "alternate cut" of this album, AKA change some songs to see what might have been. The easiest problem to fix right off the bat is to include Virus as the second song, and replace TAATG with it's single version. I thought about...

Mainly because he could've died like seven times throughout that adventure.

Bruce Dickinson - What Does This Button Do?

Yeah it was nice, although I pretty much spent the entire thing thinking "dude, why?"
