    Strange World

Just to make sure. Are we talking about the same solo here? I am talking about the second solo (from the live version) that starts around 3:20. I hear a lot of similarities here with the first solo from the original. I do agree that it's not the same solo, but if you listen closely, you'll hear...

    Strange World

I belive you are correct in that it is in fact Dave. And this live version definitely points to it. (Listen to the second solo, by Dave. That is almost a replica of the first solo on the album version.)

    Strange World

I think Babo 91 is correct in saying the first solo (as well as the second) is by Dave. If you listen to live recordings from after H joined the band, H would do the first solo, yes, and Dave the second only. But listen to some versions of that solo, and you will hear that on many nights the...

The Thin Line Between Love and Hate

An old comment, I see, but I will reply anyhow. All five solos on this song are by Dave. Listen to the tone, the licks and the phrasing. It's Dave all the way. Great song, one of my favorites on the album and Dave is totally on fire. Some nice guitar work (all of Dave's solos are really good)...

The Official Book of Souls Tour 2016 Thread (Warning: Spoilers within!)

Thanks for clearing my doubts! And it makes sense, seeing that that's the way they play it live. I do wish they would have switched a bit back and forth on that song, though, as those melodies towards the end were just made for Dave's smooth tone. Having that said, again, Janick does a good job...

The Official Book of Souls Tour 2016 Thread (Warning: Spoilers within!)

Does anyone know why Dave plays rhythm guitar only on The Red And The Black live (except for his solo, of course)? After countless listens to the studio version I was convinced that he played lead under the "whoa-whoa-"chorus, as well as "The Red And The Black"-chorus and also that he played a...

    The Apparition

Lifeless, dull, boring. Pretty much sums up this track for me. This song should never have made the cut. In my book this is one of the worst album songs Maiden ever did. (And I consider very few Maiden songs to fall into this category.) The solo section is the only thing here with any merit.

    Weekend Warrior

Another song that seems more like "hard rock" than "heavy metal". I will say that FOTD overall is still heavy metal and it's still Iron Maiden in every bit, but they definitely went for a different, more "hard rock"-approach for this record (which they have also admitted in interviews). Weekend...

    Judas Be My Guide

What a wonderful, catchy rocker this is. Dave's lead work is immaculate, his solo here makes my eyes water every time. Kudos, Davey!

    Chains of Misery

totally agreeed, excellent work by Davey on this one too. I've always loved FOTD and most of the songs. Although the album is far from their best, and it definitely has some dull moments (The Apparition, anyone) and overall a lot of the songs feel a bit second rate, I still love it. Chains Of...

    The Fugitive

Pretty okay song. I like it, although it's a bit lightweight. Pretty good solo by Janick. I LOVE Dave's short ((but passionate) solo, which clocks in at only 9 seconds or something. However, there is a part in the middle there (after Bruce says "ay ay") which I am not certain as to whom plays...

Guitar solos on "A Matter of Life and Death"

Take it from someone who is a HUGE fan of Dave: I can only agree with you. His solo on FTGGOG is so bland and just sounds like a rehash of licks he's done before. But, I guess it just proves he's human. His solo on Breeg, though, is possibly one of his best. The poor production is (probably)...

    The Angel and the Gambler

The song is, in my opinion, not THAT awful, but on the other hand it's far from a great song either. It's definitely way too long and repetitive and musically, nothing really happens (except for the great solo section). For me, Dave's blistering solo is the clear highlight of this song. Janick's...
