Yeah it's funny, if I have a Maiden album on in the background and it's playing a weaker song like The Apparition.. the middle solo sections etc are nearly always great and I always remember them.
I do love the melodies and solos and the colourful feel of VXI. Just wish they'd worked on the songs a bit better and given Blaze more time to put in a few better performances.
Listening to this after the x factor, and this isn't well produced either, but it's actually a step up from the X factor production wise. I think I like the breezier lighter sound as it is a little bit like their 80's guitar sound.
Filler of the Dark but at the same time it's not an interminable slog like most of Maidens last few albums.
This is genuinely difficult.
BoS has a couple of absolutely brilliant songs, better than most of the stuff on FoTD but as an album it's so overstuffed.
To mention Metallica again, At least Maiden have never had an album quiiiite as awfully produced as the clip fest that is Death Magnetic. In retrospect the songs all suck too but the production is heinous.
I remember thinking the process sounded interminable with Lars spending about six months to get a drum sound for the black album. It was worth it though, that album still sounds immense.
Some of you guys complaining about the weak guitar mix should listen to TXF. It could be WAY worse. Sounds like blaze is singing over an isolated bass and drum track and Janick and Dave are playing through an answering phone message in the next room.
