Even though its generally considered blasphemy that Blaze could sing any Iron Maiden song better than Bruce I understand what you're saying. The high Bs and tenor C in the chorus of The Nomad would be difficult for Blaze also. He can do it but it wouldn't be pretty.
My guess is that Steve's levels were dropped a little bit to make room in the mix for the effects Adrian wanted and for the reverb on Bruce's voice since this is their song. I'm confident we'll hear the bass thwacking away on songs like The Red and the Black for example.
I really loved reading that interview. I hope there will be more and more so we can start to get a better feel for the rest of the album and if SOL is a Wildest Dreams or Different World type of tip of the iceberg. I'm glad the guys had such a good time making this album - that has to bode...

I can definitely understand what you're saying about it being like a better El Dorado. It has the same tone, not necessarily musical tone but the same feel. But just like El Dorado and Different World and Wildest Dreams I don't think it offers even the slightest clue as to the deep and complex...
It sounds like that's what we can expect from If Eternity Should Fail. I think there will be lots of good Harris material laced throughout the epics and the Smith/Harris songs. And apparently Tears of a Clown is a pleasant surprise to many. Then of course we have a journey unlike any we've...
This is one of those things where Bruce almost has no business being able to hit notes like that at his age....none of his peers can do it in full voice like he does. Not Geoff Tate, not Rob Halford, not even younger singers. And to think that he had a very large tumor in his throat at the...
You're absolutely right as far as the difference being that this song hasn't been "Steve-ized." But don't worry - everything I've read from several people who have the album say that The Red and the Black will be exactly what you're looking for!
This is a heavy homage to Deep Purple just as Different World was to Thin Lizzy. And just as Different World didn't offer us any clue as to the dark and complex journey that was ahead on AMOLAD I suspect the very same is true here. It always warms my heart to hear Dickinson hit and project tenor...

I really like Different World as well though it wasn't a first single. Again I like Speed of Light, particularly Bruce's performance and I think it bodes well for the album. There are 87 minutes filled with twists and turns and surprises beyond what we can imagine lying ahead.
Yes I have a feeling that we have no idea what we're in for, especially with EOC (it'll be like the thing we enjoy and didn't even know we wanted). And I think we'll get a more familiar treat with The Red and the Black that will make us all grin ear to ear as soon as the melodies kick in.
The reason you feel that way might be due to the fact that this song was not "Steve-ized" since it's written solely by Dickinson and Smith. Definitely cool to have a songwriting flavor we haven't tasted in many, many years.
