I do love the proto-prog metal riffing (I like your description here), then after a short bit of inane spoken word blather it launches into a heavy, blues-drenched solo that continues through the song's fade...

I saw Rush live about a dozen times between the Hold Your Fire and Test for Echo tours and Something for Nothing is way up there on the list of songs that I lament never getting to see played.

My favorite guitar solo on PW is actually Emotional Detector. The song starts with a slow buildup but by the time they reach the solo Alex and Geddy are absolutely shredding.

I don't actually dislike Alchemist, but I usually skip everything up to that and start playing the disc at Isle of Avalon. I've got my En Vivo disc to cover earlier songs like the title track and El Dorado.
