First listen... not blown away. Looking forward to Mandrake growing on me of course over time.
Honestly, enjoying Blaze's Circle of Stone far more at the moment.
Realistically...
Tears of the Dragon (on Fear of the Dark)
Son of a Gun (on No Prayer...)
The Lion by ASAP (on No Prayer...)
Born as a Stranger (on VX11)
The Brave (on VX11)
Lots of good songwriting by Maiden members elsewhere that could have strengthened the 90s albums
The long ending instrumental section of Book of Souls has my favourite use of the 3 guitars.
The sound like they are weaving into each other and it works well.
The only thing both maiden and metallica consistently do now is record lots and lots and lots of material for each album. Like a brain dump of 80 or 90+ minutes making everything a double album. I think that is a cost decision and a time decision. That way you only bother going into the studio...
I know what you mean but I describe it differently.
Maiden albums still sound somehow authentic, somehow raw at times. Always they have a unique personality.
Priest albums now sound produced in a factory for making 'perfect modern metal songs'.
To me, this was always about the impact of how one song ends and another begins...
Flash of the Blade ---> Duellists
Paschendale ---> Face in the Sand
Red and Black ----> River Runs Deep
My top 3.
AGree about production. Annoys me when it is just assumed Roy Z production will be perfect and better than Maiden production. This is not always a given. And I couldn't say this track is better produced than Shirley Maiden at all. In fact, it was a let down for me. Good intro music and an...
My least favourite tour in my nearly 30 years of following them. It was annoying that it lasted three years, 2012, 2013, 2014. When they played London 02 I only went to one night, which is unlike me since its my hometown and I would always see every night. When they came back to Europe in 2014...
Maiden for me. With respect to Dick Brucinson, while you are probably correct on one level, Roy Z is likely employed by Bruce and his bills paid by Bruce to make these solo albums happen. Not to say Roy Z isn't talented and capable of getting the best out of Bruce and loves it. But he is likely...
Awesome. I won't be taking my daughter though, she's 5 months old!!!!
But I would love to if the band is by some miracle still in action in 5 years times.
Hmmm....
From the older material, I'd be interested in Bring Your Daughter... to give Run to the Hills a break. As a fun closing song.
From the newer material, too many really. Dance of Death, I'll go with that one. Great building live song.
That in itself is debatable. The thread is about the quality of all 17 Maiden albums.
So if on nine of these albums (FOTD - SJ), one regular songwriter has repeatedly 'recycled' and 'self plagiarised' in their songwriting, surely this affects the quality of well over half of Maiden's recorded...
Hi. Not archived but I recall the Iron Maiden official forum from 1998 very well since that's around when I joined.
It was badly split, like a civil war. Young fans like me, some of us loved VX11 (I was 16/17 at the time, so impressionable to new material). Older fans mainly were agnostic or...
I suppose he could 'perform' even more once there were 6 in the band. But I'm not sure.
His A Real Dead One solos are something crazy to behold at times.
I am going to politely restate the fact that if you work in a organisation with a boss who sets the rules, you do tend to follow them to keep your job. When it comes to Janick's songwriting, he is following the constraints set down by Steve (similar constraints that led to Bruce leaving in 1993...
I am having fun, because much of what you wrote here is, in your own phraseology, "dumb as fuck".
1. How can the topic at hand be "janick's worth in Maiden" in a thread called "rate all 17 Maiden albums bad to worst". I'm sorry, but the topic is Maiden's music. Please don't try to reinvent it...
