I’m wondering if the title track will have any similarity to Brighter Than a Thousand Suns. That song also has some similarity to Tool and is rhythmically challenging.
I like TFF but it’s definitely inferior to the other reunion era title tracks. Brave New World, Dance of Death, and the Book of Souls are all much stronger. I’m hoping Senjutsu will be closer to one of them.
I’m thinking the answers to suddenly having four Harris epics might lie in this interview from 2016. Either Harry felt now was the time to let more of his ideas out or the other writers didn’t bring as much material into the studio in 2019:
Steve: "Well, these days I seem to be having problems...
I agree with your assessment of all the albums you mentioned. In much the same way I find Brave New World to be bright and progressive, a return to form, and what could have been the natural successor to Seventh Son had that line of thinking been allowed to continue at that time. Not to...
I find TFF to be similar to DoD in terms of its overall strength. The high water marks on these two albums (Rainmaker, DoD, Paschendale, Coming Home, The Talisman, WTWWB, etc.) are among my most favorite songs ever but the consistency of the albums isn't quite as high as it is on BNW and AMOLAD.
AMOLAD is simply a very, very good album. It's really impossible to compare directly to the earlier albums so I don't want to bother with the 'best of all time' argument. If Book of Souls is being compared to it in terms of its consistency and quality then next Friday can't get here soon enough!
I think the agreement that they likely signed says that they can give their general impression of what they heard but not specific details. This was the case for the fan club member that won a trip to hear the first 4 songs on AMOLAD before the release. I'm sure no reviewer has been paid off...
It isn't the same intro repeated for 8 minutes. It's the band accompanying Bruce on various piano and string melodies, etc for that length of time before the story calls for more energy. I'm pretty sure there are lyrics and building/sweeping dramatic things happening during that time however...
There will be at least one more review coming from popmatters. The critic that already did the song by song Twitter review will be publishing his longform review Friday. Should be a good one since he's a Maiden fan that "knows bad Maiden when he hears it."
For those that didn't see his Twitter...
I would think so, but of course people that only like the older stuff will complain a ton about the production and so forth. As someone who loves all four of the reunion albums in addition to the older music I know I'll be happy.
From all the info I've been able to glean from critics that have it they keep stressing how consistently good the album is and how varied it is, that it touches on everything Maiden do. Short punchy songs, anthemic songs, and full on epics. Empire of the Clouds is said to be the most...
Even though its generally considered blasphemy that Blaze could sing any Iron Maiden song better than Bruce I understand what you're saying. The high Bs and tenor C in the chorus of The Nomad would be difficult for Blaze also. He can do it but it wouldn't be pretty.
