    USA Politics

The short answer to the first question is, "Probably not, at least not if there's a significant part of the US population that doesn't think the deal is good for US interests." That was supposed to be the purpose of getting treaties ratified, so that the US only entered long-term deals where...

    USA Politics

I did notice that a lot of Democrats who were looking forward to Comey's testimony like it was Christmas Eve didn't have a lot to cheer about when he was done admitting facts establishing that -- while Trump did some things that were dumb and probably inappropriate -- Trump in fact was not a...

Poll: How to arrange harmony in "Revelations" w/ 2 guitars in band

Playing "Revelations" at an upcoming gig. There are two guitarists in the band, and we've been discussing different options for arranging it. Want to get the MaidenFans' opinion to help our decision of how best to present it: specifically, the guitar harmonies between the first verse ("Oh God...

    European Politics

Another question from a semi-ignorant Yank too lazy to do 30 minutes of research: it's apparent that Theresa May has been badly weakened by this election. Who are the next potential Tory leaders waiting in the wings who could replace her in the near future?

    European Politics

Curiouser and curiouser - they're now calling it as a likely Tory / DUP coalition government. Being a Yank, I'd never heard of DUP until tonight. About to go look them up and find out what they're all about. Anybody across the pond have a take on them?

    USA Politics

"Deep State" refers to careerists in in federal departments, some of whom allegedly undermine the political authority in charge by leaking, sabotaging policies handed down from above, etc. "Administrative state" as I used it refers to departments that promulgate federal regulations, which have...

    USA Politics

There are a lot of us here who've been arguing for more legislative checks on the executive branch for at least 9 years now, some of us longer than that. Trump may finally lead to some of those checks coming into effect. It won't happen without a change of culture in the legislature, however...

    USA Politics

Any long-term deal that the US makes needs to be ratified by the Senate. President Obama, for reasons of his own, never submitted it for ratification -- which means his successor is free to withdraw from it.

    Official Football Thread

Even though they're West Ham's biggest rival, this one Millwall supporter deserves some respect. Took on all three of the Borough Market attackers with his bare hands in the pub where he'd been having "four or five pints - nothing major," got cut up pretty bad in the process, but probably...

What or who got you into Iron Maiden?

Ages 6-10 I was into rock and roll - Beach Boys, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Beatles, etc. Age 10: I moved, made a new friend who got me into AC/DC, Cheap Trick, and the local rock station. I borrowed my dad's LP of Led Zeppelin IV, which he'd bought only for "Stairway to Heaven," and listened to the...

    Pink Floyd

"Bluntly" is correct. Too bad Waters can't make political statements with a little more cleverness, and maybe a unique insight or two. But he seems to rely on his celebrity stature to give his political pronouncements weight, rather than his creativity. Oh far out, Mr. Waters, Trump's a pig...

    Soundtracks

I like soundtracks from older movies (60s-70s). Henry Mancini's music from the Pink Panther movie series is classic; but my favorite movie soundtrack music from that era was the jazz-funk-rock of Lalo Schifrin, who scored the Dirty Harry series, Enter the Dragon, Bullitt, and many more...

He'd been in poor health for quite some time; reports within recent months gave the impression that death was not far off. But Gregg lived a long, full life; survived a lot of pain, tragedy, and self-destructive behavior; and left a big musical legacy. Well done.

What I read was that it occurred in the foyer of the arena leading out to the train station, and that the foyer was unsecured as people exited the concert (suggesting that the bomber just walked right in from the train station). But that was yesterday. Any more-current reports shedding more...

The Official Book of Souls Tour 2017 Thread (Warning: Spoilers Within)

According to the Telegraph article, the dispute is with one of the co-songwriters, who claims to own his co-writer's share now but hasn't produced evidence of his ownership yet. Maiden's management acknowledges Steve's lyrical inspiration, and suggests that Steve worked something out with the...

Adrian, Janick and Dave's guitars and Steve's basses

The block inlays peg it as a Custom, which came with 3 pickups; but I don't know SGs well enough to pinpoint when it might have been made. The small pickguard like the one in the picture was used in the 60s and 70s, but some of the late 60s-early 70s SG Customs had the larger pickguard.

Which musician have you seen live with most different bands?

Only one I can think of off the top of my head that I've seen in three different combos: Bernie Worrell. Saw him play keyboards as part of Bootsy's New Rubber Band; the P-Funk All-Stars, and with his own group the Woo Warriors. Others, two different bands max. EDIT: One other: Eric McFadden -...
