Now Playing (Video Games)

I don't know if I'll do RoE or Lost Mission. I kinda want to get to Doom (2016), Doom Eternal and Doom Dark Ages. I know there's nothing stopping me from doing it now, but I have this fing OCD about finishing something, before moving on to the next. Main reason I'm playing the FF games in order. I wanted to do the same with the Castlevania games, but that hasn't really worked out and I do feel slight anxiety over that lol.

Also, Doom 3 is super old, right? 20 years? It was pre DLC days. Reason I'm wondering is, I'm playing it on Game Pass. Game Pass games are only the vanilla game, they don't include DLCs. But if RoE and Lost Mission are already included as part of the base package then I'll be able to play through them.
Lol, I’m the opposite; I feel like I get to the final area of games and then often move on to something else. It’s madness haha.

I’m not sure about the Game Pass thing, but if you’re playing the BFG Edition both RoE and Lost Mission are included.

I felt dizzy playing doom 3 back in the day and i bought again for ps4 and the same! Lol

Nah,there is no better doom than doom 1 and 2.
I forget which update did it, but eventually the flashlight was added to all weapons do you didn’t have to keep switching to it. Maybe that contributed to the dizziness?

I'll check. I'm about to leave Site 3. I activated the freight trolley, but I have to seal the hatch first. I have no clue where LOL. it was midnight so I left it for today.

Finished Doom 3 on Sunday. It was a fun ride. Even though the credits says the BFG Edition is from 2012, it does not seem to be said BFG Edition as when I go back to the main menu, I can only start a new campaign, no RoE or Lost Mission option... oh well.

I tried playing Doom Eternal, but it asked me for my Bethesda account. A LOT of games do this. EA's NHL games ask for EA account, Blizzard games ask for your BattleNet account, even some Ubisoft games ask for your Ubisoft account. BUT, all said games allow me to back out or decline said option and still play single player campaigns. Doom Eternal has no said option... I refuse to create a Bethesda account so I couldn't play it.

I thought I had Doom 2016 on deck, but I didn't, as it dowloaded I started Doom Dark Ages aaaand I LOVE it lol. Granted I only did the first mission, but that was enough for me to be hooked hahahaha.

I put FFV aside, because I found it hard to get into. It feels like I take 5 steps and get interrupted by dialogue (not really cut scenes), between party members, the party and a villian, etc. FF 1-4 only had dialogue when interacting with NPCs or before major confrontations. Didn't really interrupt action or cut immersion. I'll get back to it, but for now it's no longer a priority.

Just devoured The Roottrees Are Dead, at least the first mystery. If any one here has played and liked Return of the Obra Dinn, it's basically exactly the same lol. I had a love/hate thing with Obra Dinn, it's dramatic and emotional and it has a signature visual style that makes it very special, but it's also hard on the eyes, and moving from clue to clue takes so much damn time, especially when some clues were only nested inside other clues... Roottrees is the exact opposite, visually uninteresting but you look for clues on the Internet, and you even have a history tab, so you don't spend 75% of the playtime on trying to remember how to get to that one scene where that one Chinese topman was. Speaking of Chinese topmen, Obra Dinn has so many bullshit clues and answers which honestly made me not enjoy the endgame much at all. Roottrees is so much more fair in this regard. Give me Obra Dinn with the gameplay of Roottrees, that would be the ultimate game.

Roottrees sounds like exactly the kind of thing I'd enjoy more than Obra Dinn. I loved the idea and atmosphere of Obra Dinn, but some of those clues felt like the game was actively trying to mess with me. The whole “spend five minutes just getting back to the exact scene you need” thing definitely got old too. I really like the idea of Roottrees making the investigation itself the focus instead of fighting the interface. Now I kinda want that hypothetical Obra Dinn with Roottrees' mechanics too lol.

I feel relieved to see I'm not the only one that got a tad overwhelmed with Obra Dinn lol. It's definitely a game I want to go back to, but like many, when I feel I have the time to just sit there and work through it.

Speaking of which, I am still hitting my head against a wall with FrostPunk's The Refugees scenario. I refuse to look up a guide. I'm sure I can crack it like I did with the previous two scenarios.

I'm Halfway through Doom The Dark Ages. I'm loving it. It is the perfect blend of action, exploration, visually striking, ridiculous "story" and power fantasy. I watched Noah Caldwell's review of the Doom 2016, Eternal and Dark Ages "trilogy" and he said that the Halo elements (like the Dragon missions being ripped straight out of Reach) felt misplaced. I couldn't care less, I loved riding a dragon and killing shit hahahaha. He does make a good point that Dark Ages is the synthesis of Doom and Quake and ultimately, it works. I spent the weekend scratching my OCD making sure all missions are 100% before moving on. The replay value is insane. I spent about 2 hours on a particular level making sure I got all the collectibles, secrets and objectives. When I went back to do a clean up run because I was at 98% completion, as soon as I got what I missed, I could run through the level in under 10 minutes just going from checkpoint to checkpoint. The dragon mission was even faster. I only needed to kill one more Hellcat to complete the Cat and Mouse objective. I got it at the very start of the level. I ran from ship to ship and killed everything in sight in under 5 minutes LOL.
