Would you say there a noticeable dip in Blaze's confidence between the X Factour and the Virtual XI tour?

I always thought this was the Blaze they hired, very early in October 1995:

Had he been able to reproduce this live and keep it going for 100 mins a night, across an 11 month tour, things would have panned out differently for the live shows. But it went down hill gradually between this recording and the bitter end of this touring lineup in December 1998.

Very good 2 songs indeed as i said i respect thr guy. But has to be difficult trying to sing songs that for sure you know that you cant.

I have a feeling he was able to force his voice to do pretty good auditions of the Bruce songs, but by the time the tour dragged on he couldn't force his voice up out of range anymore

Fear of the Dark
Iron Maiden

Encore:
Doctor Doctor (cover)
The Number of the Beast
Running Free

2) According to Blaze in recent years, he's attributing it to record label pressure because everyone was having a reunion. This ignores Steve's statement in the official bio that if Bruce hadn't returned, he would have replaced Blaze anyway. We can deduce that was due to pressure from Nick--I don't recall if it was in Larry Paterson's Blaze band bio if Nicko had given him an "it's either him or me"-style ultimatum or if that was from another source--or Nick/Rod/record label combined.
I heard that not only Nicko, but Dave also joined that ultimatum. I don't know if it's true or not.

I think he did The Evil That Men Do better than The Clairvoyant.

The clairvoyant was horrible. The evil that men do was horrible too lol,but a bit less horrible. During clairvoyant all that was not chorus he was shouting the las phrase and thr chorus was "like he sings the bruce parts". I think wasnt his fault. His voice is too low for singing bruce songs.

I have a low voice (like Peter Steele, or Phil Anselmo's speaking voice), but I think I can do TETMD pretty "good", and we are in E. You just have to start singing some parts lower, and do some alternations. Of course I won't try to hit Bruce's high notes. It sounds a bit like if Hetfield singed in Maiden :D Blaze struggled because he always tried to match the high parts of Bruce, instead of forming the vocal lines to match his voice better. But I can undertsand why, he tried to make the audience accept him. And I don't know how well the crowd would have reacted if he changed songs drastically. But at least he could have given a solid performance night after night. Instead he (or Steve?) chosed to die on the stage every night.

And mabye because his accent? He sounded like having trouble while saying the words right " so when chour waiting for the nextachak" maybe because the speed or trying to go high. During clairvoyant the same. I dont agrre of people that said that he does great wrathchild or afraid to shoot strangers. I think he is not a good live singer. A decent, but he did indeed a good job at the studio.

I think ATSS was pretty good with Blaze. But that's not a hard song. You don't have to sing demanding or high parts. You are just telling a story. The same goes for Wrathchild. It's easy. We even use it for soundchecks to warm up. On the other hand, The Clairvoyant was terrible. Sometimes even Bruce struggles with it. I don't know why they chosed that song. They should have done Wasted Years instead. Apart from some parts of the chorus (which you can alter easily), it's fitting for a deeper voice. Or do more Paul songs, like Prowler or Killers. I don't know why they insisted on keeping Hallowed or The Trooper in the set. They left out the later in 86-87, and they left out Hallowed years later. They could have easily done some favours to Blaze, if they didn't want to detune.

I mean not better than bruce. Imposible to do it.about the favours with blaze i think the 90s setlist was a favour to blaze. Imagine him singing aces high. During 90s they stuck in the same setlist for maybe 3 tours

I don't think anyone said that Blaze did a better job. He just did well in some songs. And the fact that they played a lot of Blaze era songs is not surprising. I mean, it's natural that they focused on the newer material. But having Blaze sing The Clairvoyant, The Trooper, Number or Hallowed was cruel.

I've always been in the "tune down for the baritone bastard" camp, but I also like the suggestion that Blaze had taken the time to rework all the vocal melodies to fit his voice once he got the setlist. Since lyrics and vocal melodies I believe are the brunt of his songwriting contributions, this would've certainly been in his wheelhouse. However, you're probably right that Steve likely insisted the songs be sung as Bruce had done them, which (if that assumption is true) was basically him taking out a gun and shooting Blaze in the foot.

Yeah. Blaze's only chance was to form the vocal lines to fit his voice. But he didn't do it. The question is if he was the one who insisted on trying to nail the originals, or it was Steve. We know how stubborn he can be. But I guess we will never know the truth.

Yesterday i shaw the last show in buenos aires 98. Atst is darker and etmd the chours is lower but he goes up before chorus. But its weird and difficult for him singing all the bruce songs. But as i said before they were playing the song too fast, well as fast as they were doing in 98 but he struggles with the words i dont know about english accents but hes pronunciation is different than bruce. Btw for me is difficult to understand steve too

Yeah, they played the songs too fast. TETMD is a great example, but they rushed The Trooper too. It's not surprising that he couldn't catch his breath.

Since English is not my native language, I can't really speak the words of wisdom about accents. But I don't think his accent is that different. I mean, after all he is an englishman too. I know there are some differences between regions and countys, but Blaze sometimes sounds like if he is a foreign guy. So I think he just fucked or messed up the lyrics a lot of times. And since he didn't remember correctly what words to sing, he didn't remember how to sing them either.

That " Acha" sound happened in other songs yesterday watching buenos aires 98 i realized and was on fast songs

Yeah, playing the songs way faster wasn't helping Blaze. The tempos were all over the place since Adrian left the band. I'm glad he insisted on playing the songs closer to the studio version after the reunion.
