Black Sabbath

Since Maiden has been brought up, here is what I think.
Sabbath also isn’t really much of a direct influence on Maiden (as far as I can tell) like they are on some of the other bands.
I believe Steve has cited Geezer as a big early influence for him as a bass player.
I once read an article which said that Steve was asked about Maiden's primary influences and he said: the twin guitars and guitar harmonies of Wishbone Ash (and maybe one other band I can't remember), the complex time signatures and time changes of Genesis and Jethro Tull and the "dark melodic elements" of Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.

It was ages ago - shortly after I first got into Maiden so circa 2010 - so I don't think I have a hope of turning it up again in a hurry but if I do manage to find it I will post a link.

Bruce said kind things about Ozzy and told a story (that he’d also told in one of the Maiden docs, I forget which) about hanging out with Ozzy, drinking, and trying to steal a taxi (or maybe Ozzy just suggested stealing a taxi).
This was one of the easter eggs on "The Early Days" DVDs - where he concludes the story with a recollection that it didn't happen because Sharon saved the day by confiscating Ozzy ...

Strange how news that shouldn't really be surprising can still come as such a shock.

That final performance is all the more poignant in light of this, it wouldn't surprise me if the thought of being able to say one last goodbye was that was all that was keeping him going through his health issues these past few years. In the end, he got to go out on his own terms. RIP to a legend.

Rest in Peace Ozzy.

He departed on his own terms. He himself has stated that he wants to do the final gig and then go. Another legend gone.

Wow, I’m just catching up with this news. It makes one wonder how much he was hanging on for the last gig

Much as Perun expressed , I am happy that the founding Black Sabbath members played their last gig together and parted as friends.

Ozzy put an indelible stamp on music and culture. He’ll be missed but never forgotten.
