Death Metal

I wonder if anyone here likes the band Suffocation. Great Death metal, can be put under Brutal/Technical sub-genres. I'm actually getting into them. Their songs have such crazy breakdowns, I'll say many modern Death metal/Deathcore bands are actually influenced by them. Terrance Hobbs is a great guitarist, vocalist Frank Mullen's (no longer in the band) "air chopping" hand gesture is already iconic.

They were also featured in an advertisement for History Channel!

I don't listen to death metal much anymore, but when I'm in the mood for brutal death, the first and the third Suffocation album (along with Mortification's Scrolls of the Megilloth) are usually what I put on.

And yeah, just like that, I've been reminded of Mortification and their best record, which I mentioned in the previous post over a year ago:

You know, I really like it when a Christian band appears that can actually stand its own and their efforts aren't just "good for a Christian band", no, they're not this weak, discount version of real music, but they're really awesome as such. Mortification used to be like that. This is an album that raises some serious competition against the greats of the genre, in both brutality and quality. I've met several (secular) people online already who named it as their favourite death metal record, even their favourite metal record overall.

Seriously, if you like old school brutal death at least a little bit, give this one a try.

Anyone acquainted with them, by any chance?

Scrolls of the Megilloth is definitely their best album, and 25 years ago, I listened to it a lot.
Unfortunately Mortification is a one-off for me, because they are no Death Metal band. They turned into Thrash and even Power Metal later. They never had their own Style.
It's basically Steve Rowe's solo project and he just plays every style he wants.
That's fine, but it makes the band as a whole uninteresting for me.
Scrolls is not perfect and sounds very random at times, but it has some real fucking bangers going on!
