Bruce was sick when he set foot in N America. I was at the Bristow VA show and he had a box of Kleenex on the drum riser to blow his nose in between breaths. Then by the time they got to Central and South America, he got even sicker. Some sort of Ear Nose Throat and Butt sickness.

Is nights of the dead that bad? I never listened to it, don't even know what your it is.


They don't need to release full concerts anymore. I'd be happy with a pro shot version of caught somewhere in time (Nicko was always fine in that one) on YouTube, Alexander and a few others. Like they did with Stranger.

For me its a good album.

It's the LOTB 2019 set featuring a sick Bruce (because of course they chose such a show).

The setlist is great. Nicko's drumming is and sounds brilliant.

The production fucking sucks though. It has many of the same issues Book of Souls Live Chapter had, in addition to a sick Bruce.

Any part where the crowd is singing along (the chorus in Wicker Man, Aces High, the "hey"s in Revelations, parts of FOTD) are entirely unintelligible. Seriously, even if you know how the melody is supposed to go, you can't hear what the audience is singing. You just hear crowd noise. The "hey"s are particularly egregious because they sound as if someone triggered a shotgun blast in a cathedral and recorded it from outside. I have no idea how it is possible to mangle audience recordings with modern equipment to such a degree where you genuinely can't tell what they are singing and shouting anymore.

The production issues are due to Tony Newton's (questionable) skills, not Steve's meddling. I guess we can blame Steve for hiring Tony, but I'd rather skip the middleman and blame Tony directly for his subpar work.

I would say that nights of the dead for me is a try to sound like Live after death.

Not sure I get what you mean. LAD, regardless of the performance of the various members, sounds much better than NOTD. Especially the crowd noises.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of LAD (I prefer Maiden England '88), but Nights of the Dead shouldn't have been released. Legacy deserved much better than that. It was a good tour and an excellent representation of what Maiden actually are. Lots of classics, some tasty rarities... Pretty much the perfect setlist to serve as the summary of Iron Maiden. Not to mention the visual aspect of the tour.

The lack of a 2023-24 live album is such a disappointment. I mean, it wouldn't have been such a big problem if we had had any complete pro shot from a festival. But we only have few songs that got professional treatment. I was hoping for a F666/Live Chapter type of release due to Nicko's performance problems, but I guess I was wrong.
