Simon Dawson is the new drummer

Yes I know. But there are many Clive-era songs that are (IMO) well loved songs that are not being played.. 22AA, Prowler, The Prisoner, Children of the Damned, Drifter, Purgatory perhaps (those are some of my favourites out of the songs not being played)

My point was more that a lot of the tracks on the current tour (8 as you say) are Clive songs, yet everyone is comparing Simon to Nicko and how Nicko played those songs - which is ironic because Nicko also played them differently to Clive. We're just perhaps more used to hearing Nicko play them. Although something like Killers for example - would it have been played on more shows with Clive than with Nicko?

Absolutely. I wish he were on the TFP tour, just imagine Alexander or Caught SiT with him beyond the drums.
No offense, but I'm pretty sure Nicko would have a polite few words with anyone suggesting he should step back and let someone else play Caught Somewhere in Time on tour. I don't realistically believe there exists a force in the universe that could've stopped him from going out on The Future Past tour in fact.

Health is that force..
But I think Steve seemed so calm about his decisions, also telling Nicko to just recover bevor the Future Past tour because he had played Iron Maiden songs many times before with Simon. He knew he had Simon.

Do you think Simon should/will play on a new album if there is one?
It depends on how Nicko is for recordings, it won't be easy for him. Possible? And whether they want to record faster again. Simon is the new drummer, but a live member for now. Now, I don't think it would be surprising if he will play - if he should, well, if Nicko skips fills and everything... let's see. They'll go to Nicko first, which is right since they said he's still part of the band. They seem on fire with Simon now and a potential album with him is curious, especially if the material is (more) fast/old school, inspired by the current tour.

To be honest, when I watch videos of them playing and interacting with each other, it suddenly seems doubtful to me that a band wouldn't want to have this drummer (Simon) in the studio with them also.
But we don't know much about another important factor: how exactly Nicko is doing, whether he plays (can play) a lot etc.

The latest update we have of nicko is he playing brown sugar in a event:

And he already said in a recent interview that he still want to play something like pat travers wich is less demading than what he did with IM.

It seems like he can't play cross-sticked hi-hat patterns. Even simple ones like Brown Sugar.
If he not improved anything from dec. 2024, i think he cant play at all in a future IM show. This video is from sometime between jan and feb 2025.
